drinking
To be honest mate if you are finding it hard to not have "a few cans EVERY night" or to give up "having a smoke on the weekend", then personally i,d question whether you are really putting enough into passing PRMC and getting fit.
If you wanted it that much it wouldn,t be an issue, the DRUGS (weed if you wish to call it that) would have been out the window the minute you decided to try and join and the drink should have been cut down, not out completely but down.
Now you can go around calling people geeks if you wish for having such an attitude as to not associate with people who smoke pot EVERY night, i on the other hand would suggest maybe they are that much more switched on and focused about joining an Elite Corps than you are.
You dont have to get rid of your friends but i would strongly suggest getting rid of their habits from being your own.
dwarfy,

Ok, granted maybe a bit extreme. What I was trying to imply is that people who have a problem with drugs often find it much easier to quit when they don't socialise with the people they associate drugs with.lodgi wrote:You don't just turn you're back on you're mates because they smoke weed you idiot.
One of the biggest parts of RM training is determination, if you don't have the determination to say no to peer pressure then you may find it difficult to cope with the pressures of Marine training.
There is no definate timescale, some reports reckon a few weeks, some say years. Quit now to give yourself the best chance.lodgi wrote:All I was wondering is how long does it stay in you're system?
I hope you are proud.lodgi wrote:I got them smoking it to start with.
Why the personal attack? I'll take it on the chin but do remember that..lodgi wrote:What sort of geek are you?...
...I bet you're a right little geek.

edit:
Good to hear, I hope you do.lodgi wrote:I'm knocking it on the head as of today.

Good stuff, itll be the best thing you can do. Might be hard (although it apparantly isnt addictive) the hard bit will be saying no when all your mates are at it. But remember passive smoking of it will still leave a trace in your blood stream so you might have to ask your mates to smoke when your not around, im sure they would understand.I'm knocking it in the head as of today.
Oh and as far as alcohol is concerned - When i was first trying to get fitter etc i was drinking 4 - 5 times a week (students eh!) but ive now come to realise that whilst i was seeing some benefits the alcohol and junk food lifestyle was holding me back so now its just weekends.
Hope this helps
Good luck, keep up the training.

Do you honestly need drugs and booze to have a laugh?
I went to a house party last night, didnt touch a drop but still had a right laugh.
As for drugs... whats the point, there shite.
Not only will u fail the medical or not get in the marines, think of the long term effect on your health.
If you cant help smoke it because "all your mates do" then i agree with ali_hire and cut away from that social group. It wont make you a geek, just make you farking sensible.

If all your mates decided to mug and beat and old lady would it be hard not to join in?
Did i say they were no, ok then if your mates put there fingers in a fire would it be hard not to join in? Damn i forgot there proberbly not firemean either.lodgi wrote: Future_marine whats you're point? No i wouldn't beat up and old lady but whats that got to do with anything? They like to have a smoke after they've been to work. They're not fuking crack heads.?
No seriously now i was making the point of if you have to do things your mates do your easily lead and thats not a good thing, or maybe your just using that as an excuse because you don't want to give up yet? I'm not judging you because i used to do it myself, (when i was a right bum). Thing is though my mates went on to do harder stuff and i decided i didn't want to be apart of that so i moved to London. Did i give up most of my friends? I guess i did, am i a geek? No!
I guess your no where near as bad as the lad that came on here asking is it ok if he joins the marines and pops a few pills every weekend.
I hope you do give it up as of today as the sooner the better for your health.

everynight seesm excessive, dont quit the beer, just have one everynow and again, and get wasted at most possible once every two weeks. You dont want to get too pissed in training as i have found it has a drastic effect on your training which isnt a great one either.
Just dirnk socially and have a good time now and again. Possible on your day off??

that sounds more like going cold turkey off crack or something. im not calling you a liar i just didnt think it could get anywhere near that bad on that drug. you sure he wernt exaggerating a bit?the whole time he was sweating, biting his nails. I later asked him what was up? he was 'roasting' as he puts it, dying for a spliff

You can get addicted to anything. Fact.
___________
________
___
________
___
i just thought that weed was a mental addiction and you thought you needed it which gave you the cravings just like smoking cigarettes. crack, heroin etc they are mental and physical so thats why i just thought you didnt have those kind of symptoms when going cold turkey on weed but if you guys say youve seen it then i stand corrected
I can third that about the above.
My brothers friend used to sweat and get nervous if he didnt have a spliff for a few days. He couldnt cope with everyday life without having a spliff in the morning to calm him. You can get very addicted to weed, and as far as recent research is concerned it appears to suggest its long term effects from its use, are far more dangerous than used to be thought.
In my opinion the kind of mentality associated with the smoking of pot is FAR FAR removed from the mentality of someone wanting to join the Royal Marines....Simple.
Lodgi, i hope you can stop as of today, regardless of an ambition to join.
Drugs....of any form (alcohol aside), i cant stand them and everything associated with them, ive seen the effects too close to home, as they,ve destroyed some old friends whom i used to be good friends with, they were also good lads untill they got caught up with the "wrong Crowd".
