I train in reality Martial arts. I don't know if anyone has ever seen cage rage, UFC or any other no holds barred MMA events, but that is what I train in and for.

So is trainig in MMA available on the side in the forces, Obviously boxing is a big thing...
to be a little pedantic, theres no such thing as "reality martial arts", what you mean is you train in realistic fighting systems. there is a big difference.

as effective as braziallian j-j is - watch how quickly someone gets off when you sink your teeth into the flesh around their ribs...

Fair enough "shoot the bastard" but getting taught hand to hand combat builds self confidence and i beleive makes people tougher which obviously would help in a war scenario. And about the "why dont you smash the glass over his face" fair enough a fight is a fight but i wouldnt like to leave another lad the same age as me just on a night out with life long scars on his face cause of some little arguement, would you?

Did you fight back at all?
She was a girl, if i'd punched back i would have been called a woman beater for ages...all i did was block some of her punchs. If she had done anythign worse i would have done a karate chop on her to knock her out.

For anyone who doesnt fight, or at least hasnt been in a couple, I suggest a bit of friendly wrestling with mates after a night in the pub.

Keep it straight wrestling, with no punches, kicks, eye gouging etc... teaches you a lot about the basics so you can put it into practice more easily when the need arises.

Im scared Im going to start sounding like someone Im not here...

The last time I saw someone try to smash a guy in the face with a glass the guy holding the glass came of worse as in he sliced the tendons in his hand when the glass shattered.

Same with bottles.

And in combat just why are you going to be holding a farking glass anyway!?! :o Sneaks system of self defence gets my vote. Shoot the Git! :D

Its not about when in combat your going to start punching someone etc I think they do it in training to get the "kill or be killed" attitude further highlighted and make recruits tougher physically and mentally, just my opinion. But since I have no experience of what hand to hand fighting they do in training or why I will step aside.

They teach it on training because it's what they have always done. And it does weed out the wimps over time.

The old R Company was always in demand for it's unarmed combat display. Nought like a good "Punch Up" for Civvies to get excited over than a bunch of Bootnecks seemingly beating the crap out of each other!

The only trouble was that sometimes a bit of "revenge" would occur, normally over a woman I might add. The sight of a Royal curled up in his own little world of hurt was not uncommen! But the civvies thought it was all part of the act. It wasnt!

One bloke was kicked so hard that it took six months to massage his knackers back down again! :D :D :D

Sometimes in training two guys would get on each others nerves and the training team would let them loose on each other. Not a nice sight and I think it is now very much frowned on by the higher ups. But it was a good way for blokes to vent there feelings.

Been looking in on this Site for a year or more BUT I've never been tempted to reply to any threads untill now. Your Members have wide and varied views covering all aspects of the "First Thread Questions" NO other input was required, topics were well and truley debated and seen from everyones perspective. Great.
In reply to this Thread, "You Do What It Takes To WIN", What Ever, How Ever. Some advice that was passed on to me at a early age, "If the worse thing you exsperiance in your LIFE is a BEATING, you'll have a GOOD LIFE". Look at ALL the shite that could come your way in this day and age?
Me, I'd want to be with Sneaky Beaky and The Artist, Back to Back with Sneaky, everything at LONG RANGE, keep It Simple, NO Heroics, Side by Side with The Artist, he sounds like a Drinker and a wet or two does me.

Nice One Doc, And all the Time I've been thinking it was B O  I'll have to learn to take me hands out my pockets and Bu**er me Mums advice.

If there is no peril in the fight, there is no glory in the triumph.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Over the years I have seen a fair few and indeed taken part in a couple of Bar Room Brawls. Both in the UK and Abroad. I came second once a twice as well truth be told.

But have never instigated one. Well it makes a mess of your Wrangler Jeans and Sweat shirt don't it. Anyway booting a guy whilst wearing Dessie Wellies can break your foot! :D
