yeah he does need careers advice. anyone can attemp selection in the military. its your choice. its just about whether you can get the time off to train for it. and there are 2 selection courses run each year. since the SAS is so small, id guess out of the 100 that would start it, less than 10 would get on, if that.

oh, and search for special air service on google. theres shit loads of websites dedicated to the sas. ive got a book called how to get in the sas and what its like. its like a bible. everything you need to know.

Special Boat Service is open to Royal Marine Commandos only. You do the same selection as the SAS, but miss out the jungle phase. which is why the SAS hate the SBS and call them unproffessional. But they are not hihgly train in CQC but say they are exceptional swimmers and divers. If you look in the green bible then near the end you will see that swimmer canoeists is one of the options and specialisations. You need 3 years experience though.

last i heard and read was that the SAS is open to anyone in the military. Army, navy, marines, and RAF.

All i can guess is that on a weekly basis is that the SAS will be in hereford in the killing house all day shooting thousands of rounds and blowing windows and doors up. surely youve seen the iranian embassy siege. probably pratice other assault techniques like landing on a bus from a chopper etc. cool stuff

The SBS apparently dont do as much trainign and CQC stuff like the SAS. but maily train on sub insertions, canoeing and swimming.

this is problably all bollocks though, as the only way your gonna find out is to either join, or of attempted selection
utter tosh

and further more...............even more utter tosh

Anyone can apply for SAS, SBS, 14 Int. SBS have naval Army and RM ranks in it and 22 have everyone including colonial men with extra large sideburns.

SF is volunteer as is all of the armed forces, you attend SF aquaint first then do joint SF selection then sub divide into your chosen line (SAS/SBS) SBS was historically RM so it makes sense a high proportion of their ranks are still RM. Further more I aint an expert, this common knowledge in the non-SF service, and some of the twonks on this site need to consider doing some time in that before choosing wether or not to tell the Directorite of UKSF which one you feel best suited to. Walk before you can run eh??

At least this part of the forum gives the lads at Poole and Hereford rolling eyes practice, even the occassional belly laugh.

Anyone not serving but posting SF needs to look at "how do I join up and pass basic, trade, couple of years in, fitness, current affairs, and "get a grip" sections" of the forum!

IF those arent of interest then www.Im-a-twat-too.com maybe worth a look, buy all the kit and sit at your PC looking up SF websites as life passes you by.

im pretty sure only royal marines can join the special boat service. why would you want people from the army and raf joining the sbs.

and in this book thwe army sent me it doesnt say anywhere init that you can specialise as a swimmer canoeist.

heres the articles of why the sas say the sbs arnt as professional

I know a lad from 59 Commando RE (Army Sappers) who was SB

There are also a few lads I gather who went SB from 148 and theres even a few matelots in.

As for the SB not being aswell trained or doing as much training as Hereford, then the only peole who can criticise are the SAS and SBS lads themselves. As I doubt there isnt many on here who have done either and therefore its all 3rd hand knowledge and inter unit rivalary.

The SAS element of selection has become longer though with the introduction of the PAC (Potential Authors Course) (sorry dry dig just to boost some forum brownie points for Poole)

well why wouldnt they.

i supposed you wouldnt even believe anything about the sas even if it wa someone like barry davies who himsefl told you would you.

cause he reckons they do, and since he server 18 years in the sas i dont disbelieve him.

maybe they just play cards all day, supposed that what special forces were born to do. or what they ex[ect them to do.

Right Mitch you muppet, there are people on this forum who know the SF differently to the way in which you "know" them.

For the record I was never SF, though I was once called special in school!

But during my career I did have an input into SF life as I did alot of medicals for lads going to selection.

The reason why there isnt SC in the army is that its a RM qual, not an army qual. There are army and naval ranks in the SB, and if someone told me a crab or two also it wouldnt suprise me.

If your telling me you've read a book thats been written by someone retired for ages and heavily sensored by the MOD and your believing it, then you are one sad ponti who needs to take a long hard look in the mirror then take yourself outside and give yourself a severe hiding.

These books are there to make money and whilst I aint slamming Barry "honest its my real name" Davies's career then I would tell you his book is slightly removed from reality as in that way it can be written for starters and appeals to the mass audience and muppets like yourself.

And no, SAS selection isnt like the TV series and Grant Mitchell doesnt go from CRW to training wing and to a squadron with a chick in it and the CO as his 2iC in 3 weeks. (bugger you all know I watched it now, thats me banned from the subscription forums! Sorry stix and artist before you rip me apart  )

I suggest you pop down to Credenhill with your little book from the AFCO and demand to speak to someone in a S10 and a MP5 or............join up and do it the hard way. Cos the only way anyone knows SF is to bloody well join them!

No army ranks in the SBS my arse I farking know some!!!!!!!

Why argue!!! When your proof comes from a book publicly availible written by someone else youve never met??? Dont you see how bloody stupid that is??

Not related to Greenhill are you? He blows raspberries in the faces of many a seasoned operator from his mighty height of (havent applied to join yet but read a book) RAF Regt.

Sticky, Im coming back into the subs forums, its to scary out here! Cover me!! (not that kind of cover me !!)
