you are always learning after all, even if it is the very fine art of trapping honking birds without the lads knowing too much about it :-)

Fair point Owdun, but I think it's healthy to question authority. Call me a hippy, but everyone has rights, and to dismiss those who are only asking what they are could be construed as being an apologist for denial of said rights.

Interestingly enough, I'd say that things will start to change- there will be a backlash against the breakdown of the moral fibre of society. Personally, I'm thoroughly disgusted by the decadence and lack of discipline in the youth of today. I want to distance myself from such elements and I do believe the forces can offer me such a lifestyle.

(but assuming halfway through being a marine I suddenly decide I want to spend all day watching crappy soap operas and getting fat) I just want to know what the procedures are. As it stands it appears there isn't a get out clause, fair enough, just curious.

cheers, (and I wasn't insinuating that Owdun somehow condones denial of rights, etc etc....)

What amazed me after I joined was actually how friendly these drill instructors actually were. Great bunch of guys. They always treated us with respect, courtesy and compassion. I would describe them as mates who just happened to be Instructors.......

The problem is that I've lost touch with so many. There is one imparticular though that I would really love to meet again.

James, look at your profile and then look at Jock`s
And by the way the Royal Marines don`t "except" people as you have written. The word is "accept."
No offence

TJD, Owdun may well be old, but he`s not that, er, hmm. :-? On second thoughts perhaps you`re right.
He has been around a bit longer than you though. After all, him and JR were both powder monkeys at Trafalgar.(The Battle, not the square).

I don't think that there is anything wrong with doing research into this subject before joining. What can be wrong with being in possession of the facts?
