By "the software," I meant the printer, its drivers, Windows registry entries and the HP Director software that allows you to control the machine from your computer. I removed SP2. I removed all traces of the HP software, Then I reinstalled the HP software that came in the original box. The machine still didn't work.MyssL wrote:Some people have had to uninstall and reinstall their operating system (is that what you ment by the software?) to make sure the error is not undetected.
Then I installed the update that was given out since I bought my machine. Still no dice. If I uninstall Windows itself, I'm really screwed because it came with my machine and therefore I don't have a CD for it but only a hard drive image disc and a recovery disk. Hard experience tells me not to trust those things. The gods of Microsoft are particularly unforgiving, in my experience. So, at the moment, I have a semi-doorstop. It will print documents and I found a way to get it to scan by doing so from the Windows control panel. But it still won't receive faxes.
If HP is the best, then as the astronauts say, "We have a problem, Houston." It's not an SP2 thing because it still happens without SP2. I can't figure it out, and the on-line support people at HP are of no help and a websearch reveals no "repair packs" that will solve it. And I'm an intermediate computer user. It's not like I'm calling someone to ask where the "Any" key is.As far as I know, HP are the pretty much the best when it comes to the multifunction machines, it could be a case that your HP does not like the make-up of the SP2 (or vice versa): http://www.vnunet.com/news/1157744
IF it is to do with SP2, there are also repair packs and security packs to - well - to sort out the f#ck-ups.
Like I say, they suck you in and then drop you. Sounds like some women out there. p.s. I know it's all my fault. If I had a better attitude and asked took an interest in my Hewlett-Packard machine's feelings ...
