Apology
Have to agree with Cliodna here, the guy acted like a child and a twat but the fact that he realised his mistake and who he'd upset he came back and apologised..Sometimes we all need a push to see the error of our ways and if thats what it took then so be it, after all, he only gobbed off on a forum, surely we are just as guilty for biting....?

I hadn't visited the forums for a while and was quite taken aback by all this recent rumpus. I rarely post, but feel I have to say something about this. I've highlighted a couple of parts of antphilip's post which make me wonder whether is really taking responsibility for his actions. I share Flo's suspicions about this, I'm afraid. It was immature and somewhat unfair...
I hope you can forgive me for getting caught up in a whirlwind that was best avoided.

but im still not accepting his pathetic attempt of an apology. He and Dale the snail were in this from the begining ( you only have to go onto ARRSE to see that it was their idea). Grumpy cow and co were the ones who jumped on the bandwagon. So this bit about being caught in a whirlwind does him no justice at all. And at the end of the day he would be the only one to apologise because of peer pressure and that the others have got nothing to lose.
Also as for the comment about jumping to the bite, Yes we probably did but at least we were standing up for the website.

I think you're right Flo in the sense that only a personal apology would be properly acceptable. It's just as easy to type words on a screen that make up an apology as it is to type insulting ones.
But let's hope he has learned his lesson and his little foray into the world of cyber abuse will never be repeated.

I fully admit to be visiting from ARRSE but having come across this thread, I thought I would look through all antphilip's previous posts to see what all the fuss was about. Have I missed something? I can't see quite why everyone is getting so het up- if you don't agree with his point of view, just ignore him (even more so given that we are talking about cyberspace rather than being forced to stand next to someone in a pub who's talking rubbish).
I know I will probably just draw large amounts of flak for this post but I just needed to get it off my chest... I welcome any responses, rational or irrational!

Capt
He suggested that women that marry members of the armed forces are.....How can I put this.........Less than nice. My Better half is an Ex Naval Nurse, It annoyed me bigtime when he gobbed off without using that marvelous thing called HIS BRAIN.
Maybe he needs to "ENGAGE BRAIN" A heck of a lot more. As for me he aint gonna join the Royal Marines if I have any say in the matter. Because he comes across as very easy to lead astray. As in a Farking Sheep. And that is not what a Marine is.

Oh yeah and I've just remembered that the most excitement heading my way was a right good seeing to by all members of the Scottish Regiments before they are disbanded. Wasn't to forget my brown bag though (he didn't specify whether I was a double or triple bagger right enough
).
So, slighty more than a difference of viewpoint I would think.

I'll eat my word's he has explained his apology on arrse, I'm sure he'll take flak on there for that. But as Flo was the one who took most of the personal abuse I'm happy to follow her decision as to if he's forgiven. On a side note I noticed Capt Crusty you have changed your slant on here unless there is a clever angle on irony I've not seen you seem to be giving some good information on the Army forums. I hope you can see how the forums work as a source of information for young lads and lasses wanting to join and stick around to help. There is plenty of banter mostly pretty tame on the open forums because of the youngsters.
I think this 'gentleman' posted his apology because perhaps he has had a 'vision' of the writing on the wall in respect of his future (possibly very short lived) career.
In my opinion he is (was) an arrogant prat.
Gore.

If following the lead of Dale, GrumpyCow et al. on this forum is what Philip thinks leadership is about, well what place does he have in the forces?
He hopes to go for a commission? In the RM?
Now I've known 17 year olds who had more common sense and plain RESPECT than this 22 year old has displayed. No excuse, and I say no second chance. He has resorted to name calling people he does not know, just as the other members from arrse, and thought this was humor?
And that's just for starters.
Apologies are cheap. And your apology doesn't strike me as sincere and as coming from your own volition.
You followed the wrong people on here, son. If you can be made into an example, which I hope, that would be a start.
Go drive a f****g cab.

Looking around this ARRSE site and I'm a bit worried about some of those people.
Fair do's, the lads apologised, granted. But ask yourself WHY. He has realised that we aint a bunch of has beens and wanabees and that we have some people who can put a few words in here and there.
The only reason he is apologising is to save his own career (I think it was Oakers who said he would speak to his OC) which I hope never passes the preliminary stages. I for one would not want to fight next to this pratt.
Im with Frank S. Get him gone! Make an example and maybe others like him wont be tempted.

I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt.
He is a 17 year old lad who has c****d up. Who didn't as a 17 year old?
I certainly did!
"Let him who is without sin cast the first stone"! Is a saying that springs to mind.
Come on you guys - this guy could very well be a good RM in the future. Give him a break.
So he was a prat and made injudicious comments on the site.
Haven't we all!!"
Flo. Show some forgiveness. !! (Please!!)
And all you guys wanting to "out" him and F**k up his future career - please think again.
This is a young lad who has f**ked up. Didn't you - at one time or another?
He has apologized. What more do you want?
Give the guy a break!
