I think anyone can join 1 RIR who are considered normal Light Role infantry however I think almost all the people joining 2, 3 and 4 RIR (the home service batallions) are from Ireland and NI.
What do you know about surfing major, you're from god damn New Jersey

1 Royal Irish was formerly a fusileer battalion its origins can be traced back to the Inniskillen Fusileers.
