Being a young lad myself (the ripe old age of 19) i too have set myself apon a career in the armed forces.
When i ventured to the recruitment office one summers day i was met at the door by a grey haired gentleman, who said he was part of ''britain's elite'' and asked if i'd ever considered joining his illustrious ''forward thinking team''.
He sat me down and spoke of the how, where and why's, and showed me leaflets with such electrifying colour scheme's that i was putty in his leathery hands. He then asked if i wanted to talk about this particular lifestyle in further detail, to which i anounced in a slightly, shall we say 'feminine' voice- Yes please!
While he scurried off to find a room for which to interorgate me i was approached by a rather dashing young man with a green beret perched apon his head. He asked me if i was alright as i looked a bit pale, i replied 'yes thanks' and told him everything i had been told.
He said that all of what i had been told was ''utter rot'' and subsequently i realised that i had been lied to, but he said i could be helped, if i just followed him, which i did.....
I was led to a darkly lit room and shown a grainy video, which looked like it was shot in 1807. It followed a group of young men being shouted at and generally looking rather tired and bedraggled. We then talked at length about what i was looking for in life and he had an answer for which i had been looking for, the Royal marine's.
He gave me some forms to take away and fill in and a thin booklet called ''the green bible'', i was told to read this thoroughly. He then enquried about my fitness, which i replied 'ok'- he said ok wasn't good enough and that i should work on it, and with that he threw me another leaflet, smaller than the last but contained more valuble information.
And with a final goodbye i was thrust into the outside world once more, head spinning at the events which just occured.
With hind sight i can see that, dare i say, i was almost led to the dark side, but was thankfully saved at the last moment. So what im trying to say is maybe you should 'introduce' him to one of her majesties finest and maybe he too can be saved from the scythe like talons of the RAF.
