I wasn't trying to make a big point about setting a timetable for training, all I meant was, make training a priority and make time for it. I don't set a schedule, either. I set myself time to train each week and I don't budge. Everything else has to work around my training time.

Jesus! This is an old post. If I'm correct RobT spent a while in the TA infantry before passing his PGAC for the RAF Reg & is now waiting to join up.

Anyway,

Have to say that this is the same for me. I find that if I try and follow a schedule the exercise becomes very monotonous & boring. Since binning my training programme I'm actually doing more exercise & enjoying it a whole lot more.

It's also reassuring to hear that other people are the same, especially people such as yourself (Davo & Jagger) who are either working towards the same goal as me (RM Cdo) or have been in training. A mate who's serving never followed any sort of programme before joining & he never had any trouble. I asked him the other day what sort of scores (pressups, situps etc) he was getting before PRMC & starting training. He looked at me & said "dunno, I never counted".

However, different things work for different people. I've got a lot of time on my hands at the mo so this is what works for me. The way bigbart does it is what works for him. As with most things you've got to find what works best for you.

I'm with all of you on the schedule. Nobody seems to be understanding what I'm getting at. What I mean is, I'll make sure I have time to train. I'll wake up in the morning, set myself an hour or so to train, and make it a top priority. Whatever else I need to do will have to be fit in around it. I don't do the same workouts day in, day out. It's just that I work full time so I have to sort of "make appointments" with myself to train. All I'm really trying to say is, make training your no. 1 priority, don't just do it when you can be arsed. If you tell yourself you're going to train 7-8 tonight, then do it. Once you're in the forces, you won't be able to sit on your arse if you decide you can't be bothered.
