Not quite sure what you mean coz im really thick but yeh im interested.

Im a real sad bastard for doing this but it was worth it and helps me.

Basically, in school we can print as much as we like off the internet. I used this to my advantage by going onto the Royal Navy website, and printing everything that had something to do with the Marines. Ive now got a Royal Marines folder with over 50 pages of info in it which I can read whenever I waant, and I can add more to it when I find other info.

This was good, helpful, and best of all, FREE

Back to school in a cuple of days (in year 13 but not planning on staying till end of year), and I can get printing again!

I gathered from my interview that the most important thing you need to know is why you want to join the Royal Marines, and have a genuine answer! You also need to know information on the Marines. I was asked general stuff about the structure of the 30 weeks (and the Exercises) Bases, detachments, the badge and some brief history. I was completely S#*tting myself before i went but the CPO i had was ok and made me feel at ease, and made it quite enjoyable.

What did all of you say when you were asked that?

I've thought it over god knows how many times but I can't come up with a good short answer, and I don't think it'll look good if I spend the whole interview rammbling on.

My reasons for joining are fairly selfish really I don't want the boredom of a repetitive desk job. I want something that will keep me active and pushing myself. Throw in the chance to see parts of the world that you might not else be able to and having the corp as a second family as well as a steady paycheck make it a real dream job. Being a service to my country is just a bonus I guess.

You could probably say the same for any part of the forces, but I figure if your going to join, join the best

Why do you want to join the marines?

To have a varied working life, keep fit, learn a trade, work part of a team.

I think that was all.

Ive been having problems with this question because I know that I could write an essay on it for a response.

I suppose ill say something along the lines of 'Ive wanted to be a soldier from an early age and the Marines offer me the most of what I hope to achieve........'

ill probably go on and talk about the sporting opportunities, travel, fitness, adventure, challange, to be part of something which many people could not even attempt, active life, outdoor aspects, professionalism, etc.

How long should this answer be? I'll feel like a prick if I stop and the room goes quiet, or if the interviewer had to stop me!

Who does the interview anyway, a Marine or a Navy person?

I had a navy officer interview me. And yes to my shame i failed my first interview my head still stays low. But i failed because i didnt know the breakdown of the 30weeks but i went back the following week and passed it

when i get asked, i'll probably end up sayuing something really cheesey but fundamentally true, such as:

"when i saw what the RUF where doing to people in Sierra Leone i was horrified and could not believe people got aware with it. i want to make sure they can't and joining the Marines will help stop it."

or

"when i saw the faces of all the kids in liberated Iraq i wondereed what it must have been like to be a liberating troop force walking down the streets seeing all the happy people, happy because of u."

is this too cheesy??? i would word it differently but i just wrote this quickly. there are also all tej other things mentioned by everyone else but is this ok. is this what they are looking for???

I had a Chief Petty Officer (NAVY) for my interview. The answer i gave was similar to alot of the reasons that others have posted. Basically i said i wanted a structured lifestyle that the military gives, and that i wanted to be in a fighting force and looked at the Army, RAF,Navy but the marines looked the most professional in my opinion, and also that i relished the challenge of the Coveted Green Beret. My best advice is to be HONEST. If you seem like your reading from a script, or have a rehearsed answer then they will know!

Your answers do sound a little cheasy BassBoy! They might ask why don't you become an aid worker?????
