But i have to disagree about military.com forums.
They have even opened up a section of the forums dedicated to the british, i had a read thru that and it was 99% full of people saying "thank you for your help you are magnificient" or similar

I understand what you mean, but I seem to remember the British using that theory a while ago? didnt realise that this topic has opened up a real heated debate between two of the members!..for the record if it wasnt for the incompentence of the british commmanders then alot of anzac lives would have been spared at gallipoli!..having said that the rm came to the rescue of the anzacs..otherwise alot more would have been killed!..on the flip side the british did get their butts whipped in the american war of independence!..or was it they didnt mind givin the us colony up!??

Yes I think one of the factors was French aide. Whilst I do understand that frends die in wars from the actions of both sides. I do find the comments fire first a little unnerving, my time in the RM was built on trust that the bloke, with, next or behind you could be trusted not to fire first and think after.

The problem for so many Americans is that have a very thin veneer of Americanism which makes them want to prove their worldliness. When you meet, one the first thing they will tell you is their lineage, Irish American, Dutch American whatever.

I agree with your earlier discussions on 'what is wrong with the USA today '. Their irrational foreign policy ! When US politicians (Cheney and and Rumsfeld with the exception of the eloquently spoken C. Powell) act like nightclub bully rambos ( I think they need some diplomacy lessons from Tony B. and Jack S. ), it puts us lot off (from the Middle East and Asia) supporting USA in these conflicts and the poor troops have to bear the backlash of their politician's rhetoric.
To those US trroops (reading this), You may have won militarily, but you have to win the hearts and minds of the people too ! I'm sure you guys have some compassiony, decency and and are trying your best to liberate Iraq humanely.
We will try to understand your good intentions if you can try to understand us too and not think that all of us are anti-american gun toting religious fanatics with beards and women in black chadors !
By the way, could you lot speed up bringing in the Medicines and food supplies and that may break the distrust. The iraqi people have suffered enough from Saddam and constant bombing. Thanks

I have been reading your comments with great interest. I was initially baffled as to why Tony Blair was dragging the nation into a conflict which made absolutely no sense. Iraq was no direct danger to Britain, or the USA.
To give Tony the benefit of the doubt, as I don't consider the man to be a fool, I felt that he maybe pushing Bush towards a settlement of the Palestinian issue. Interestingly today, Sharon has stated that Israel, however reluctantly, will give up the settlements on the West Bank as part of a peace process.
Why did Canada not support America in this war, something which they have been critisised for, even within Canada. One, Canada does not really have a voice on the world stage outside of the UN. Two, today there is a provincial election in Quebec. By backing the US would have been seen as anti French within Quebec, giving strength to the seperatists within the province. Our wiley old PM probably saw this, hence took the step to defeat the seperatists.
Politics and politicians can be very dirty. I know your feeling about USARMY Archie, he nearly got me to bite. I treat him like a spoiled teenager. He likes to flex his muscle, but like a spoiled teenager he lacks knowledge and experience, but I still like him as he gives me some amusing moments.

As we all realise the issues are much more complex than I have outlined, although the main points were covered, as you so rightly say the Israeli element is a major one as is Georges influence in NI.
It should be pointed out to our less worldly readers that the Jewish vote and the Irish vote are of major importance in the US, indeed without their support, bearing in mind the very low voter turnout in America, things would be very different.
In Tony's backyard he would love the opportunity to get us out of NI completely, just think of the money he would save. NI has been a huge economic drain for over 30 years and I'm sure that if he could dump it on the cousins in the South he would do so like a shot.
As you also said the french canadian connection is strong, and the french, russians and chinese were only pissed about the war because they had deals in place with for oil, which fell apart when George hit the go button.
As for our colonial cousin, I've bitten enough, and now it's time to do what you do with an annoying child, ignore him and he'll go away, eventually.
