Live aboards are popular down here but the climate helps and Aussies are more used to the idea of their neighbours effing off in a forty footer for two years and teaching the kids onboard. Try telling your L.E.A. that you were taking the kids out of skool in UKers, they`d larf their bollocks off.

There is a land-based equivalent down here where you buy a serious off roader with a camper trailer and head off into the GAFA (great australian fark-all). Some of our members do it every few months.
