I once knew a Marine who had worked on 16 inch guns, it wasn't until I actually saw the turret that I understood the environment and the life they led. What a huge beast of a thing, no wonder they were proud of their skills.

Nice to see the lads boasting about sea-time.I read an article in the Globe
And Laurel,as I prefer to call it,not so long ago, written by some sprog
officer, complaining about the time he had had to spend on a Grey Funnel
job,Quote,I didn't join the Marines to spend all this time at sea.
My reaction was,What the f--- did you join for? Go,be a festering Pongo.
Aye Owdun.

Looks like the SA-80 will be withdrawn from service early.

Supposedly it will take another four years to be withdrawn, but I imagine war-fighting units like the Marines and Paras will see replacements much sooner than that. [/url]

A new fault to add to the list.I was talking to an amourer who has just done the "conversion" course for the SA80A2,and he was telling me the latest.
One of the things they improved was the magazine because they attributed a lot of stopages due to magazine faults.
Well due to the new mags being a lot "stiffer" they affect the stress/vibrations that are transmitted through the weapon when firing on full auto.
This is causing metal fatigue around the magazine housing and cracks are starting to appear in this area.
Buy British!!

M16 with a susat? Hmmm sounds a hell of alot like my issue C7 (made by Diemaco). upgraded M16 with elcan sight. SAS apparentley bought a bunch as did the Dutch and Danish Militaries.feathers wrote:the airborne don't use slings, so it has even fewer redeeming features for me.. SUSAT is great, M16 with a SUSAT? That would be just the ticket..
Quote from Diemaco's site: "The Diemaco C7 Family of Weapons clearly has been selected and fielded as the preferred system in more NATO countries than any other 5.56 mm weapon system". see http://www.diemaco.com

Owdun & Co .....
Do you remember when they put the 'fastest six inch guns in the world' on the Birmingham - of all platforms ?
That caused some raised eyebrows when the many funnelled job fired
a salute to Elmers neat little frigate.....
Nothing to do with the SA80 - but still - this is our forum ...
