Scotland (we'll start with the important one first) - St Andrew's Day - 30th November.
England - St George's Day - 23rd April
Wales - St David's Day - 1st March
Ireland - St Patrick's Day - 17th March

There are are two kinds of people:
Those who say to god, "Thy will be done", and those to whom god says, "Alright then, have it your way".

Yes, St Patricks day is the most celebrated from New York to Japan. I think because the irish have 'Guiness' associated with them and their culture it brings more people to realise that they should have a pint or three. I celebrate my saint, St George purely on knowing what a great nation and empire we are, or were depending on how you look at it.

Orange isn't really my colour, but I always make an exception on March 17! It always goes over so well at the James Joyce pub...bless 'em!
What bothers me is that there aren't hardly any Irish in the area. It was settled primarily by English and Scottish. Yet, the blind sheep who look for any excuse to get ratted all run around like morons, wearing green and drinking green beer (and not an Irish bone in their bodies!). The schools get on board and the next ting you know there's a little note from little Johnny's teacher saying, "Oooh, it's St. Paddy’s Day tomorrow. Please have your child wear something green." Hence, "little Johnny" goes to school with green pants (to please teach) and an orange tee-shirt (the orange always has to be on top!).
I'm not hot under the collar about it really. It just gets my goat a bit when people do things blindly. I did actually get a laugh out of one Irish lady today when she saw my orange tee-shirt - I think she was the only one who actually got it.

I`ll not forget St Patrick`s day, 2004, at approx 10;00 hrs, my oppo was involved in an RTA, that saw the M25 closed for 23 hours. He was seven Minutes from where he was to deliver his load of Lime, in a Bulk Tanker, when the two lorries collided. Joe Cassidy, (of Irish Decent) was killed instantly, crushed when his vehicle was over turned. The Day Before, he had buried his brother, Jim, and four years this August 1st, will be the 4th anniversary of his Brother Dick`s death, another driver, who when undoing his straps on a load, loaded by another driver, the load of pipes shifted, and crushed him as well. It never rains unless it pours.I took a tot for them, albeit not on st patricks day.

Bootneck.
Sorry to hear about the death of your buddy.
Had a similar event happen to a friend of mine.He unstrapped a load of steel pipe which wasn't belly wrapped, load crushed him to death.
A lot of wrecks happen here on the Interstate off ramps where drivers pull over to sleep, they leave their parking lights on and another (tired)driver just follows the lights.Saw it happen in Texas, driver ahead of me ran into an RV parked on an off ramp, killed the occupants of the RV and the driver. He was running over 75mph,hell of a wreck.
Makes me happy to be retired, getting too'kin dangerous out there.
Wholley.

That's the spirit bootneck. Far better to celebrate the effect you had on each others lives than to commiserate his passing.
If you get what I mean...
I'm not going to go into my beliefs of life and death, just down a few for you oppo and RIP to the man himself.
