Does the Corps honestly give a ????????????????

Post by porty3 »

After Serving your full 22 years in the Corps. anyone that has done that gets to the 12, 15, year mark and thinks at the end of this there will be a pension and security and the Corps will look after you to ease you into Civvie street. :( Naval Educational Officer ) MUFLO The guy that got the job because he has a good marrage! Who wants to talk to him I wanted to talk to a guy that was going or has been through my pain. When your time is up IE: 40 ish you have to go to the Schoolie of 20/25 years old telling you what it's like in civvie street anyone that is on this site knows better. I wish I had a guy or woman that told me the truth. stay in for 22 year and collect you pension but the taxman will put you on base rate tax for the rest of your life. sorry I'm angry, pissed off fed up. we did our time you can understand why need I go on. P P P P P P P. We ARE proud of what we where lets give the Guys the TRUTH.

Came to a shock to me as well, tax? I've paid all my tax over the 22 years surely!
The only way to get back is to get your meduical pension. Go for it, any break, cut, operation etc claim for it.
Look on the net for Vetrans agency I think it is called now. Claim for everything mate. There are millions sat in the pot gaining interest for the gov, get some back.

The truth... unfortunatly... Is that the Corps does not.......Thats why they give you a number!
However, the fact that you have been a member of the Corps does matter to a lot of other people, RMA, RNBT, SAFFA are but a few.
Then there are people like ourselves, ask a question here and you are guaranteed to get the correct answerer, if not certainly a direction as to where to find it..... But as for the Corps giving a Shit.....I'm sorry thats a big NO

On the other hand...
Wait till you leave your Civvie job for another and you will see how much the Corps did care.

2 months holiday before you start your new job (Paid) EVT courses all expences paid, they even gave you DTE's and now a daily allowance. free medical & Dental, free perscriptions, gym, parking, training, Harry black maskers, batteries for your walkman, a pit for when you had a run ashore, extra money when you were abroad (LOA) so you can have a wet without the Mrs knowing, banyans, working clothes and footware for every eventuality. 6 monthly appraisals yearly pay reviews, career structure, full pay when sick, front of the queue for operations, WRENs, out door persuits and lots of pretty badges and clanky things. plus a war pension if your knees or back hurt at 40 and you're still fitter than your average Civvie...

Civvie Street = benifits in kind all of them taxable and listed as part of your package.
Yours Aye

Fella's
the grass is greener argument is a good thread to get cracking with

However are 22 year guys always gonna claim that life outside is dog s**t
double expensive and full of misery!!!

There is the inescapable financial trap aspect of it all to consider

Marine- pisses up lives on board, beer token pay
L/cpl- pisses up finds bird
CTC juniors, pay rise heady heights of Cpl, LSAP, mortgage.
Heading for the half pension!! couple more years then out perhaps!!
Possible Seniors on way along with new family, to much risk to jump.
Sgts mess, finally one of the boys, couldn't leave now, what would i do outside?

22 complete, no knees, liver like georgy best, random EVT advice off a Matelot Schooly bit of skin, see ya later

Then back down to the bottom of what ever professional ladder you have chosen to climb. With the added indignation of having to work with civvies who have little or no values similer to your own

Just an aspect of the corps not readily put forward as a reason why PEOPLE STAY IN

I may also be completely wrong here and have no back up references but What is the average life expectancy of an ex 22 year royal marine on leaving?

I think the maths add up in the governments favour quite dramatically!

Certainly not a drip or slag off just a bit of devils advocacy.

Paying 39.99 a month for a gym full of gimps is however very painful!

views please no lynching in more than packs of three

And how goes the life expectancy for those who sign up for an extra 5 after their 22?

Or should they be getting medical help just for agreeing to that?
Why? Because I can!

Jules

rarely have I seen a +5 who could tie his/her own shoe laces or mop up their own dribble.

They can't just let them go, they have no where to go to !

Sorry, but I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. :-?

Are you saying that after completing 22 years service you were not prepared/helped by the Corps for a life in civvie street? At age 40, apparently, life begins? (It's so long ago, I can't remember! )

Have they now binned resettlement courses and the presentations on tax/job seeking/housing/investments/entitlements/war pensions? There were so many courses/briefings I wasn't able to attend them all. I did manage an HGV 3 course which never came in handy, but you never know!

What went wrong in your case?

Derek
I came out in '75 (1975 that is before some smartarse puts his spoke in) and I cannot remember being offered any of those briefings. I did get an EVT course and an interview some loser in the resettlement office who was as interested in me as I was in him.

I have known men on a +5 who could have given most men a run for their money, both physically and mentally.

As I was coming straight over to Canada upon discharge, I did not avail myself of any EVT courses. Within a week of arriving I had a choice of two managerial positions. I chose the government job which paid a pension after 10 years.

On attaining the age of 55 I decided to take early retirement. Alberta government pension, military pension, etc: I feel that I gained sufficient life experiences while in the Corps to qualify me for life in civvie street, even without EVT courses.

I still don't have to mop up my dribble, because I still don't dribble, at least not when I am sober.

Aye - Andy.
