Royal Marine Badge

Is it true that they are changing the badge? If so why?

Are you sure you're not getting the RM badge confused with the SBS one?

You've just answered your own question mate, the SBS cap badge is being changed from the globe and laurel on a green lid to its own unique badge since the SBS is no longer made up solely of Royal Marines.

Bloody cretinous bureaucrats putting their bloody noses where they don't belong.

My heart sinks for the bootnecks there who may be asked to remove the Globe and Laurels from their lids.

Crappy decision to have to make isn't it?. Give up a job you enjoy and have invested a lot of effort in or, basically, stop being a Royal Marine. As difficult as it may be I think, with some hesitation I would opt for remaining a Royal and give up the SQ. Whichever way it goes it is only a matter of time before SBS as such ceases to exist and becomes a , perhaps better than previous, SAS Boat Troop. Royal will then doubtless develop Brigade Patrol duties a little further to become `son of SBS' and the roundabout will start again until some pongo gets jealous of what the Corps has and wants it in his toy box.

Saw a bit of a rather pointless programme last night about some odd guy getting tips from the military on things like driving in the dark. He also got advice from a bootneck on mounting an attack on an enemy pos'n.

And the bootie had his cap badge on the side of his head :x :x :x

It's just one of those things that irks me, mucho!

Sisyphus, JR or Owdun may correct me on this one, but I believe that I read somewhere, that the original 43 cdo used to wear their cap badge to the side.

Further to my last. This could have been one of those unofficial quirks. A bit like the attempt to have officers and SNCO's in 45 cdo wear a Pringle tartan cravat back in the early 70's. I believe that one was frowned upon from above.

Aye - Andy. :o
