This cracks me :P just see if it makes any sense at all
They use them as a deterrant(sp?) to nuclear threats and the ballistic Subs are the UK's only nuclear weapons so if we need to use nuclear weapons at some point then the subs are what the country needs.
Good point, well put. Sadly not

Yeah I'm not very good at sounding clever and I know what I'm talking about.

My old bird, oops PC (ex partner)

well her old fella used to drive subs, don't know what types ( black torpedoe shaped thing)

Anyways he's got a phot of him water skiing behind a sub in his heads at home.

May be they could be used for nods adventure training!

just a thought

Main attack sub purposes:

SF covert insertion/extraction, sig int (as mentioned), deep strike with cruise. At least until we have a conflict with someone with a boat worth shooting a torpedo at. Even then we're apparantly not allowed to shoot at warships unless they're pointing in the right direction.

Missile boats - not sure why we bother with them anymore. Who are we deterring? Korea, Russia? The French? (now that would be a good use of £4 billion pounds worth of missiles......nuke France).
