Service Charity Appeal

Post by Laura Woodley »

Hey everyone,

Working with Chris Terrill on the ITV documentary Commando on the Frontline, I became the biggest fan of the Royal Marines so when I left TV, I joined a charity which supports disabled after ex-Servicemen and women. You can take the bootnecks away from the girl....! I wondered if you could possibly assist me with a charitable project I desperately need help with..

Since 1919 The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH) has provided nursing & rehabilitation for disabled veterans and their dependents. Our charity is home to 60 long-term & respite residents who have travelled from all over the UK to take advantage of our on-site services and they range in age from 47-102 years old. On any given day at QAHH, ex-Servicemen are learning to walk again in our physio department, stroke victims are finding their voice in OT & veterans who gave their life to their country are being nursed on our wards. QAHH receives no government funding so must raise £1,300,000 each year and with over 6,000 Servicemen returning injured from Afghanistan, it’s imperative our doors remain open for the men and women who will undoubtedly need us for years to come.

December 1st I’m hosting a Christmas Bazaar to raise some much needed cash. I’m planning on holding a raffle and wondered if anyone knew of people or companies who would consider donating prizes to the QAHH cause? We're also looking for bottles (from ketchup bottles to good old port), cakes and Santas grotto prizes. We would, of course, mention them on our website and at the event, which 500+ people should attend. My email address is laura-woodley@qahh.org.uk. Any support would mean so much to so many.

And if you know of anyone who might need our help - their injury or condition could have happened whilst serving or since - please let them know about us. Our website is http://www.qahh.org.uk - there's a short video online about our work.

Thanks for reading.

Best wishes,

Laura
