assignment in afghanistan

how long does an army will assigned in Afghanistan mostly? is it true .. after 1 year his assignment he will have holiday before starting his new assignment in afghanistan so it's like a break for awhile?

can he call his family or friend from afghanistan?

The usual deployment [how long a unit goes there for] is 6 months if this is what you are asking.
