21 SAS ELIGIBILITY

Post by martymcfly »

hey ! new to the forum ! hope eveyone is well

right just a quick a qs out there to alll you knowledgeable folk and folkesses

I'm Irish, 29, fairly fit (3,20 marathonrunner) and having being living in Europe for the last for years.

I'ill be moving to the south England area in the coming months with work .

basically question is (given the above) would i be eligible to just turn up to one of the 21 attachments (A,C or E) and join up.

My main concern is regarding the Citizenship eligibility, BA website confirms that citizens of Ireland are Eligible to become Officers/soldier but i'm not quite sure if this applies to 21 RES + the fact that i will be fresh into the UK is there a minimium period i must be living in the uk before i can apply ?

This post is in parallel to contacting the numbers on the SF(RES) Web Page but no body is picking up the phone or replying to my mails - busy training i guess

Anyway any feed back on this wouuld be great

There are plenty of of people from Southern Ireland in the UK forces. Regular Soldiers for the SAS are drawn from all units of the Army but they need to have served for a period time in the Army. As far as th TA section goes I am not to certain on that

Cheers Tab - yes i am aware that there are a lot of people from the Republic serving in the regular BA and that before attempting sellection for 22 you would need a couple of years under ur belt in a reg unit and that's why it seems strange to me that i can just turn up to one of the 21 Squadrons and jump right in !

Since i'm not getting any younger i'll try and get some details from the horses mouth

will keep ye updated !

The SAS are only looking at trained Soldiers.....When I joined the Para's they were the same, you would have to have been in another Regiment before you could apply and they were only just setting up their own direct intake in the 1950's

21 and 23 you can join straight from the street but chances are you will fail. not that im trying to put a negative on it or owt. as for your nationality im not sure if the usual foriegn national rules apply like you say your best getting it from the horses mouth. I do know when I joined I had security checks done on my family simply due to the fact that they were from N. Ireland. good luck.

You can apply for 21 & 23 straight from civvy street however you cannot join SBS(R) unless you have previous military experience. If you apply to join 21 or 23 straight from civvy street however, you may find they send you to do the CIC before you progress with aptitude etc. Your best bet is to ring them then they can book you on a recruit induction day.
