What to do

Post by ChrisP69 »

Passed every thing and got all my kit, well most of it (You know how it is). Got my first drill night next week followed by my first weekend away. Ive shaped my beret just wondering should I have a crack at bullling my boots or go with them from the box and wait untill Im told to.

Wear them before you go and break them in and just clean them as normal, if they want you to bull your boots they will soon tell you. Some units are not keen on boots being bulled as it can ruin the stitching in the boot

:lol: So the crease doesn't go all the way down to your toes :roll:
Should I polish the boots a little tho, I just relised theres probably a difference between bulling and polishing.

Yep polish the boots.

If you don't know or have never done it:
Basically, buy normal black shoe/boot polish, brush it in with the ON brush until it's all worked into every nook and cranny;
Then use the OFF brush to buff them, basically removing loose material and will shine them a little.

Don't bull field boots - I'd guess they'll tell you about bulling if-and-when they want you to do it.

jeeesus lol. 4 para was/is to the TA like geordieland is to the rest of england. a culture within a culture. in my time none of this worrying bout ironing 'bulling' malark. we got us kit 'crap kit' 'crap hats' 'crap boots' and were told to look after them. drill night polish them like f*ck - rsm parade . he'd either pat you on head or 'mark' your card. (i got bollocked of him for not having a camoflaged sling when i bust my collarbone - verrry picky) we were bought up on emphasise look smart but you aint no guardsman (although our training sgt was ex guards indy lol) i dont know how rest of TA works but I thankfull for the professionalism of the 4th Battalion the Parachute Regiment - cut out the non entity and concentrated on what was actually needed.
