First of all does it look and feel like it could be 200 years old. What about the buttons and the stitching on it. Have you a photo of the buttons on the tunic also of the collar and cuffs. Has it faded at all now what sort of cloth is it made of, and what about the lining in it what is that like and what does it appear to look like. These are the questions you should asking your self
Hi
Thanks for the information. I bought it off a good auction house and it was catologued as a Nineteenth Century Military Uniform so if it a replica I will get my money back!
I have spoken to the auctioneers who have confirmed that the item belonged to a J.M. Heathcote Esqre. They confirmed that the items are genuine and that his family had sold a number of other items in a previous sale including a black tricorn hat and other uniforms and personal effects. Is Is it possible to research this person and see what regiment he served in? The items have not arrived yet so I will be able to see buttons etc when they arrive
First of all take some photo's the buttons, cuffs and collar and stick them on here and lets do some research on just what they are. Now you could try and find some one that knew some thing about the cloth and dyes as this uniform looks far to good to be true. There is no fading or signs of wear. Now that style of uniform I would reckon as around two hundred years old or around that. So is there any moth damage any damp spots where it had been stored in an attic. It looks like it has been stored in an air conditioned room with special light to stop the colour fading. Now of course these people are going say it is okay regardless, but it needs a lot more checking. Information about this person can obtained from the CRO at Chiswick but you will have to the research at the building and book up to do it. Or you can hire a person to do it for you, on that I might be able to help you find some one to do for you who is reasonable price
The items should arrive either tomorrow or Friday so I will get some photos on here for people to have a look at.
The photo I have posted is an interesting one. The auctioneers have the Jacket on a white background and they have used a flash ( maybe ) This could well mean that it looks brighter than it is in reality. Anyway as soon as the Jacket, Trousers and Boots come I will take some photos.
