Need advice re possible medical discharge for junior soldier

Post by aenoon »

Hello,
just joined forum and not sure if posting in correct area, but no doubt you will help out.
Here is problem. My 16 year old son has just recently started training at Harrogate college (september), to get there he had to pass all usual physical tests, and further medicals at Northallerton hospital, as he is double jointed (tendon laxity), a condition which was obviuosly well documented at each stage.
Last thursday whilst out on excercise he dislocated his knee, or tore medial ligament, i dont know which as yet, as info from uniacke barracks is sketchy to say the least.
However, my sons C.O. has intimated that the M.O will probably seek to discharge my son on medical grounds, as recovery could be up to three months, and they are suggesting that they didnt know about his laxity, which is absurd given the selection medicals he went through because of it!
My son is devasted by this thought, as am i as parent, given the long and often upsetting build up to his acceptance in the first place, and the apparent "lets wash our hands of him" attitude which prevails right now.
M.O is seeing my son to morrow (tuesday) we (parents) have not been informed of this only second hand info from son, so ultimate question is what can we do now and what can we expect.
as many live replies or P.M.'s as possible would be much appreciated
regards

Wait out till you have first hand knowledge.
