Post by liam115 »

Hi again guys i had my BARB test on wednesday and iv been trying to deside what job i would like to do. After talking to the guys at the recruiting office we pritty much ruled out anythink were ill have to fit in a vehicle. we also ruled out infantry because i wouldnt fit in the personnel carriers or should i say id struggle to fit. so i have finaly have desided what job i want to do after a few days of looking over it iv desided i want to be an armourer.

so iv sent all my papers off to the people they need to be sent to and now i need to get fit because i went on a timed run today and its not good.
I did 1.6 miles in 16.39 mins so i only need to shave about 4-5 mins off it lol
anyone got any tips except go to the gym and go on runs.

thanks

What was the worst part you was slow or you got too out of breath? If you need to train for speed go with fartlek running ( changing speeds from full on sprinting to gentle jog to catch up then back to sprint 100% again ect). If you just got out of breath you need endurance more, try doing 3 mile runs 3 times a week at a steady pace, the aim here is not to go 100% only around 60-70% ( able to chat in sentences without wheezing) and build up from there.

The worst thing for speeding up your time is gym work tbh, more muscle = more weight to carry while running. Do body weight training rather than resistance training and you will build up a better core strength.

To build stamina train for stamina, do longer runs at a steady pace. Start with 3 miles and raise your game as you feel.

slowly but surely getting there i did a timed run again today (kinda) i did the 2mins run 1 min walk and did it in 16.09 mins also rechecked the distance lol if i went another 15-20meters i would be doing 1.7miles.

Im thinkng of altering my timed route so it is 1.5m but i would like to know if the tested timed run is exactly 1.5mile or is it 1.5-1.6mile (just so i know).

next week i plan to do 2 mins runnin and 45sec walking and try to take 15 sec off my walking time each week to hopefully lower my time enough.

but at this rate im looking at mid dec - early jan by the time ill be able to do it in under the time i need.

And yes you dont have to point out that my first run all the way around was slower than when i ran and walked (im terrably unfit)
