Gary

Is there no chance of ringing up and doing a bit of groveling to see if they'll take you back? :P

That would be an even bigger waste of time, I may aswell finish my education while I am out, and better myself here for a year or two before going back.

Gary what's Pirbright like then? Your section seemed to be made up of mainly Air Corps, was that the same all over? And what did you think of the staff?

I was at winchester, for some reason it was mainly an AAC camp, probably because middlewollop (AAC phase 2 training) was only a few miles down the road.

The staff were really good, one moment they would be screaming in your face, but if you went to them with a question or a problem they would do everything in their power to help you. Our corporal felt more like an older brother who told us what to do than someone who was in the army. They earned my respect all right

Gary,
You'd never see a section in America that white. Lol. Really though, just man up and join the French Foriegn Legion and find redemption for the life of booze, drugs and women you have lived. Hahahaha. Don't feel so bad, when I was 18 I went to BUD/s and in Hell Week I think I was in shock due to the cold. I had this what seemed to be out of body experience complete with hallucinations and just seemed to watch from above as my body limped and shuffled to the bell and rang out. A few hours later I came two and realized I fkd up bad. But I was young then like you and then I got sent to the USMC as a medic/Corpsman. You can't quit there, and the rest was history, good history. You'll be fine, you could always join our USMC. They won't let you quit. Just push you until they awaken whatever it is in you that is asleep that was preventing you from making the standards.

I was underwieght and small. They fed me double rations and ran me up a hill/mountian 24/7 at FMSS. After 7 weeks of that I looked in the mirror and looked totally different and when I got to my unit I was doing 24 dead hang pull ups. 115 lbs to 155 lbs. Sgt. Van Geims workout plan worked. :drinking:

Gary, why dont you go for the Dutch Marines! That way you get to train with RM, USMC and be part of the second oldest Marines out there (formed 1665).........

yeah I was thinking of something like that, but I would still rather be in the British army, far better imo :)

Had time to kill and was reading old posts of mine. The whole army thing seems so long ago now. I'm glad I made something of civvie life, slowly climbing my way up the educational ladder and making it into uni. I focussed my physical exercise into martial arts and do lots of mma at the moment.

I would have just been finished with my 4 year contract this year, makes me wonder what my life would have been like had I actually stuck with it and joined the commandos.

Sorry upping this topic, but came across this and felt I had to reply, for old times sake.

Hello Gary.
Good to see you post again after a few years.
I hope you and yours are doing well.
I may be headed in your direction sometime soon.
Texel or one of my old stomping grounds Veere.

Sounds exactly like how I felt as I was leaving the RM. Knew it was a mistake as I was saying I wanted to leave, 2 years later Ive had a bit of civvie experience which is what I didnt have before I went in and partly left to do, reapplied. Get back in and give it a go. Its your life, make the most of it and dont regret not doing something you could have done.
