In for a long wait...

Post by Bellairs »

Just passed my apptitude test to become an Aircraft Engineer (Mechanical) last week. :D Whilst there I was informed that all trades are currently closed, apart from Gunner and Musician, so it's going to be quite a long wait until interviews, medicals and fitness tests will begin, they also said that basic training won't start till April next year.

Now due to the recession everyone appears to be joining the forces for job security etc. Now my thoughts on this, hopeful as they are, is that perhaps they are giving this date to put some people off who are just looking for a job and perhaps will eventualy bring the date forward slightly.

Either way I'm waiting it out because joining the forces is all I've ever wanted to do but I was just looking for other peoples oppinions on this or maybe someone could shed some more light upon it.

They're probably right, they tend not to play those sorts of games with people.
Use it as an opportunity to do all the things that will make you a top candidate when your interviews etc come around. Work on your fitness, learn as much about the RAF as you can, especially the trade you want, and the current and future aircraft, do some voluntary work, make sure your hobbies display a wide range of interests, the list is practically endless!
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.
