Also i'm pretty damn poor at swimming/can barely swim as haven't done it since I was about 7 and even then I quit my lessons. Going to have to get in and start practicing. If I was to fail the swimming test at Honington would I fail PGAC or is it just to get an idea of where you're at with your swimming.

New boy visiting AFCO next week
Alright lads. I'm new to the site. Been referring to this forum for a while or so now getting info on PGAC and everyone's training so thought it would be rude not to join. I'm going to get down the AFCO next week and set the ball rolling. Probably looking at a September date for my PGAC now mind. Providing I pass my AST, medical and interview that is.

I think you can pretty much only fail the swim test by stopping before the 2 lengths, or not starting! I know some of the time they don't even do the swim test if there's problems with the pool or it's being used for something else. Can't hurt to get yourself as confident at it as possible, mind!
Hmm.. looks like Regiment hopefuls have completely taken over this forum recently! lol

Two lengths is a bridge too far for me at this stage mate, as pathetic as it may sound. Best go and wipe the dust off my goggles. It's frustrating though as my running is coming on leaps and bounds and same goes for press-ups and sit-ups but I get a sinking feeling when I think of the swimming test. Yeah everyone in here seems to be on about PGAC, what can I say but good choice lads!
think they waiver it if you say you cant swim. when i was in there were recruits getting swimming lessons whilst us lot were gettin thrashed in the pool. they must of got in somehow, so i wouldnt fret over it. just tell the RAF recruiter. although that said now the Regt is getting its pick of recruits, I'd of thought not being able to swim puts you down the pecking order.

Well i've handed the application form in now and got my AST on 19th May so finally started the process. I asked the corporal at the AFCO about the swimming test and he said the only way you fail it is if you refuse to get in the water and that it wasn't a pass or fail test so that was kind of reassuring but I think I will still get some practice in before PGAC. He said how one lad went through the whole process and got down to PGAC and refused to get in the water, pretty ridiculous. If anybody knows how much I need to get on the AST for Reg Gunner then send me a PM, I know people say it's best not to know but i'm too curious. Cheers.

I don't know exactly, but you don't need to be a genius! If you score high they'll try and talk you out of going for Gunner, I got persuaded into changing my application to WSOp the first time around under the lure of better pay and instant rank, but I'd don't think I'd have enjoyed it as much as I will the regiment

know your trade! iv got lots of qualifications relevant to my job so breezed the test things they throw at the start. i was given the old spiel about doing so much better at this job and better pay and prospects blah blah but it didnt wash with me. infantry or nothing was my attitude and being a gunner is top notch. id choose being a RAF Regt gunner over an RAF guin any day

macleod, i recently did the AST was going for gunner but changed to mechanics, however the score for gunner is like 40 or something, its really low and nothing to worry about, as long as you can read you will fine lol.
good luck with application anyway mate.
ive jusst finished the application process and got my date to go in so if you need any more info just pm me as i can remember most of it!
