Parachute Regiment

Post by Trev1 »

Hi everyone as you may or may not know I originally wanted to join the Rifles, but Ive been looking at some new pages on the BA website and the Parachute Regiment really really appeals to me but was just wondering about the fitness for it as it does look exteremely hard. And I have no doubt it will be one of the hardest things in my life if I attempt this so I am going to write a few questions and post a link below, the link is the CIC Para course (new one I think) and it looks well hard.

1) How far should I be running and in what times?
2)How many press-ups, Sit-ups, Pull-ups should I be able to do and how fast?
3) Can anyone tell me some really good training techniqes that will aid me in getting to the Parachute Regiment recruit fitness level please

http://www.army.mod.uk/training_educati ... 11741.aspx
follow some links on there and there is some good info on the 28 weeks and p-coy etc..

i know that your 1.5 miler bft should be 9.40- 9.18 on selection depending on your upper body strength tests, if you get into depot you must be able to run it in 9.30 iv been told, as the new programme says running longer distances ie 5 milers and more will help build up the endurance you will need on the runs. also lots of circuits to build up your upper body and leg strength.
and id would also recommend speed training sessions ie. running intervals, hills sprints and other stuff. ive been told by a pti at depot you are expected to do at least 45 press ups in 2 mins at depot, not sure on situps, and pullups at least 10, but obviously you should strive to beat these target scores.

hope this answers your questions mate

These are the bare minimum score you need to be at before you go to depot. You want to be getting over these though ideally.

Run- 1.5 in at 9.18 or 9.40 ish if you can dead lift over 116kg. You want to be running at least 6-7 miles before going to depot.

Press-ups- minimum of 50 within 2 minutes

Sit-ups- 60 minimum within 2 minutes

Pull-ups- 10 minimum.

BTW thanks for them links never seen them pages before.

After selection just make sure you stay out running for a minimum of 40 minutes. My dad's told me to start walking with 15-20 lbs, just to start getting used to carrying a little bit weight.

Sandy, do Para Regt staff expect your 1.5 miler to be around 10 minutes when you first arrive at Depot. Meaning that as minimum time. I've been told not to turn up next to peak fitness for picking up injuries etc

no we expect too be as quick as possibly surey if you are expected too get 9 18/9 40 at the adsc then your time should be under that when you get here

and your idea of peak fitness and my idea of peak fitness i bet are completly different

fitness isnt everything here i have seen the fittest of recruits get backsquadded daor etc due too them being mongs.

[quote="Trev1"] Does anyone think the one hundred press up program is any good?

It is very useful, im on week 5/6 now and i feel alot stronger. When i started i could only do 10 consecutive pressups, not i can do 40-50

Try this one aswell.
