Specialisation?!

Post by themattmeister »

It's alright I'm not going to ask whether sniper is a specialisation or not or whether you can apply to be SC after week 16 of training.

My question is however which s.q's are the good one's - because lads just drip their tits off about their own?

Good question. They're all good - it's just a matter of picking the one that you'll enjoy most and will suit your talents.

Don't just listen to the guys who drip about their SQ. Talk to those who enjoy what they're doing as well - there'll be plenty of them about. Do as much homework as you can before taking the plunge.

In my dotage, I think I'd recommend a specialism that you can easily transfer into civvy street when the time comes. One thing's for sure: if you pick a 'trade' specialism you'll get far better training than you'd get doing the equivalent in the 'Modern Apprenticeships' industry runs these day.

Anyway, Best of Luck whatever you decide.

Worth considering choosing one you'll enjoy as a Marine even if you'd rather do something else later, avoid shit pings and obviously applying for a 2s level course as a Mne means you won't lose seniority (the normal problem when switching branch).

What's good and what's not is up to you, if you're after a smaller/long waiting list branch volunteering for a year as a chef used to bump you to the top of the waiting list on completion.

Bit of a bone question now I come to think of it.

Best to keep the tanks chit in and try and stay faithful to the gd branch as long as possible - got an fpg draft coming up - wazbats!

Cheers for the replies.

If you've got your chit in for tanks anyhow you won't get pinged for any shit SQs, but you may end up with a crap draft whilst you're waiting...FPG for example  Although some blokes like it there. Plus it means you'll keep a GD-ish role even once qualified. So I'd stick with that if it's already in, if you find it's not for you wait for that elusive B-grade RoRRs and go for something different at 2s level.

Put my chit in for fpg a few weeks back. Seems like the way forward what with fsrt, mst and sfsg.

Been in an msg troop before and it's pretty much wrap stations on soldiering skills, go down castle martin and get the rounds down - so the tanks draft can stand fast, until I milk fpg for all it's got, or think of an s.q that's better.
