PGAC Date March 9th

Post by rm4392 »

Hello

I passed my medical as ive already said ive now been giving my PGAC date for the 9th of March and i dont think im getting any fitter im doing 3mile runs 4 times a week as well as swimming and gym on days inbetween. Im eating the right food and drinking plenty of water ive stopped drinking alcohol while im getting fit.
My 3 mile is averaging at 25mins and im wanting to shave 2-3mins off that maybe more if i can, any suggestings?

None of the above.
Have a proper read through this forum, using the search button, just like I did and many others when we were in similar positions. :D
There are lots of answers and advice on here. Good luck!

This helped me get my 3-mile times down a bit, might work for you too or might not but it's worth a try!
If you have a stopwatch with split timing (I use my mobile) divide your route into stages and time each stage. I used google earth to measure mine with stages between junctions and notable landmarks. If you can get a couple of seconds off each stage it'll all add up over the course of the whole run, and it'll give you a good indication of how well you're doing in terms of your total time. It's all in the mind, but it works for me.

Like rm4392 said interval training is great. Have a look on Itunes, there are a few podcasts with intervals set to music and voiceovers, I find them a great help. I started with one called "couch to 5k" search "podcasts for running", there are others better suited to somebody who is already doing OK fitness wise.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Devastated for you buddy. Keep your head up fella, get some none impact work done. Swimming etc. Don't get disheartened with it, this is a test ... how much do you want it? Enough to keep your head in and stay fit while your shinsplints heal?

Good Luck
