Another cheep and effective tool for helping you build a solid core is the 'ab wheel' you might think there gimmicky and only for TV ad people but try doing these standing up and you'll soon see just how tricky it really is.
Anyone who can do multiple reps with a wheel should find conventional sit ups a breeze.
persistence seems to be the key with muscular endurance (as stated above) you should be at those to goals in no time if you commit you're self to it.

More pain, less effort! Or less boring, rather.
I usually do all my situps on an incline bench. Made it seem a total doddle the other day when I went without to see how many I could bang out in a minute, I was so used to doing the same thing on the bench!
I still can't do 200 though, I got to 85 and got bored, plus slightly dizzy from all the motion of my head up and down!

There was a video of one on that Ross Training website that was posted on here a few years ago, the core strength required looks pretty impressive, I think he just used a home made one. Any idea where to get one at a decent price?

Maybe work it on a % improvements type thing? I.E someone who can do 10 press ups makes it to 30 thats a 300% improvement that way the less fit would have something to aim for... like a most improved ?
