Just remind Me but how old was Chris terrel who attempted and passed his commando tests? when he filmed commando on the front line
if i remember 55 end of the day as anglo says PMA Positive Mental Attitude!!

Good look blade

ps isn't this meant to be a military forums where everyone should be encouraged!!!!! not have the complete piss taken out of them for wanting to attempt something?

sportbilly as for his age you don't know his personal circumstances eg wife kids etc!

No wonder this place has gone downhill
ex nod was diagnosed with chronic compartment syndrome rejoining eventually.

Am I too old?
He asked a question. He got an answer.
If his question was "I want to get REALLY fit? Am I too old?" That's something ENTIRELY different. But at 39 he's too old for 4 Para according to their website details.

If you want to blow smoke up people's rings who ask questions, then crack on Fodd. Anyway, have you got NO sense of humour AT ALL??

Chris Terrill passed the Commando tests in his 50s. Hats off to the fella. It gave him extra kudos and helped him integrate as part of his documentary. But at the end of the day, it was a TV programme. He didn't end up signing on for a few years, which is what blade wants to attempt.

"No wonder this place has gone downhill" it's because certain members always want to keep raking over the coals... Why make that comment fodd? If you haven't noticed, this place seems to be going uphill.... Or are you not really READING the posts.

If you ask a question, be prepared to accept the answer.

The 4 Para website says 18-34 (44 with previous relevant experience). I don't think you have relevant experience.

By all means have a go, but it doesn't look hopeful.

I don't know why you've left it so late to come to the decision that this is what you really want to do, but I suspect you may be kicking yourself.
Nobody's saying that your fitness isn't going to be up to scratch, we don't know if it is or not, but age limits is age limits, and rules is rules.
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

Sport Billy I dont mind you having your say infact I take it on board what you are saying due to your experience. Anyone who is in or has been in the forces has my total respect. Just a little thing my dad said to me not long ago-the c/o in 4para in Pudsey wanted to bin one of the recruits due to his weight and him not keeping up with everyone during their runs and tabs but my old man refused to bin him because he always finished and never gave up. This recruit is now an officer in 4 para.
As for the age thing because of the shortage of british troops at the moment due to this inept government I have already been told they would have a look at me. Anyway if I dont get in at least I tried+I can carry on raising money for help 4 heroes etc coz its the least I can do for the british troops especially the PARAS

Good on ya blade.... I admire you for having a go and wish you luck. There’s no denying that determination and sheer stubborn-ness can get many a man through all sorts of extreme physical challenges. Very often it’s the guys who’re just prepared to knuckle down and grit their teeth until their gums bleed to pass a physical test, without any thought of giving up, that pass. While their muscle bound team mates fade at the first pain barrier..

I’m not saying you haven’t got it in you to get to a level of physical ability to pass the basic entry tests, but unless there’s a substantial policy shift regarding recruitment criteria then you’re up against what’s written on your birth certificate.

However, if they’ve already said they’ll consider you then what do I know…..

Hi blade! i just want to say you do have balls, at your age i would just want to settle down. But like i allways get told if you want something so bad then do it, what is the worst they are going to say?

Chris from Commando on the Frontline was a long distance runner before he was a producer. But all the respect to him for doing something i wish i was fit enough for...

Good luck anyway mate.
