Private cowboy, i'm not sure if you can be joined to a full time Military unit so i can't comment on that, as for being transferred to the Infantry regiments it would probably result in you having to join full time instead of part time..(I think)
Send a request up the chain of command for a transfer to a chosen unit and see what happens.

I'm afraid I can't answer your question particularly well, but despite Jstagg's good intentions neither can he, so take the above with a pinch of salt.
The little I do know about the TA - firstly you can be attatched to others for a tour, we've got a few working with us at the moment in support roles. I imagine it is mainly down to your trade and the deployed unit's manning requirements as to whether there is a 'suitable' slot. I seem to remember that last time I was out there was a whole TA infantry company that worked as a unit, rather than filling gaps, but I don't know if that's common practice, unique to infantry or whatever. Bear in mind that a six month tour will take the best part of a year with pre-deployment training and leave afterward (tho some lads go back to work, so they get paid twice!).
As to what units are deploying, they are usually published in advance in most major newspapers etc, although obviously someone should be aware. As usual the military admin machine is notoriously inefficient - I don't know how the Army works, but do you not have a central manning office that you can poach the phone number off and talk to direct? Usually the best way in the Corps is to get to the one person that does know the answer themselves, any other way takes weeks. I'm afraid I can't help any further than that.

Probably best to speak to your PSI mate - I know that what you're wanting to do can be done, but don't know any details mate!Private Cowboy wrote:Can anyone tell which infantry reg is going on ops this summer? And also the procedure to get attached with them if your from another unit? I'm TA but want to go on ops next summer but we're noit goping out till late 2010.

The guys at my unit who served on FTRS to incorporate an Ops tour(Herrick 7) were with 40 Cdo for a full 12 months. You are incorporated into it at an early stage so that your involved in all the pre-tour training phases and OPTAG packages. You will also stay on for a period when you return for post tour evolutions.
There is a fair amount more 'added' to the admin side of things for Reservists to get sqaured away beforehand aswell and this must be done meticulously to avoid pay issues etc, i dont know your situation but for example you dont want your 'regular' T.A pay to continue whilst your out on full time as has happened with some lads. You dont want to be worrying about the family income when your out there and so forth, there are other sides of your Civvy job that need to be smoothed out too.
Not sure how things work with T.A attachments to Regular Army units so im not going to comment at all on that, but im sure you must have someone at your Unit who can give the details and/or point you in the right direction.Bear in mind they will have their own 'needs' and may not be over excited about handed you over so you may have to push them a little so to speak.
