I think the answer to question 1 is you either get defeered or transfeered to a normal infantry unit. The second answer is, no you cant specialise straight away you go into specialisation in phase 2 wich i think sniper can be chosen. As for promotion i think its based on merit/recomendation?

Why does everyone want to be a Sniper?
90% of Infantry applicants I've met either want to be a Sniper, in Recce or in Special Forces. It's always good to have goals but why can't people just focus on getting to Battalion first, all the infomation will be there when it's needed.
I would imagine places in the Sniper Cadre would be given to the more experienced blokes who have proven themselves already in Battlion or/and on Ops. Focus on getting to ITC (C) first, then on passing the first week and then the second and so it goes on.

I dont know about any1 else that want to be a sniper but i think theres something special about looking down a scope and the science behind the shots your about to take i.e windage, curvature of the earth etc and getting that perfect hit on the target...I heard that during training you need to be getting top markman scores to be considered, Personally to me Sniper, Recon and SAS or SBS are the top roles

and also i dont think, thinking about the ultimate goal of an individual should be put to 1 side while during training.

No need to be so abrupt sandy, i started the first answer with 'i think' so its what i thought was right, sorry that it wasn't paramarine. The second question i read on my job brief that in phase 2 you can specialize in certain things and one of them was sniper so i was copying the information of my job brief into the answer. As for promotion, the same thing is written in one of my job briefs.

Yeah I read my brief and it says its a 26 week course which just contradicts itself. I understand what your saying and you probably are right just seemed like you were being abrupt, apologies if you didn't mean to come across like this :)

Snipers take in to action their knowledge of heat, humidity, weather, curviture of earth on the 1 single shot that will make a difference..

Sadly if you're a sniper in a squad in a platood the highest rank you'll shoot is probly a shit picker in some forign army whos stood about 300 meters away..

You wan't to make you're shot count i suggest you play a game.
