Joining as Officer

Post by jo_l »

Hi guys,

Im 27 and looking to join as an Air Traffic Control officer and was wondering if you can give me some guidance and tips especially if you're in this role. I'll be looking to join in 6 months time so am going to start training both physically and mentally. Im just abit worried about the interview and aptitude tests. What do i need to prepare? I know maths is very important so going to brush up on my mental arithmetic. In terms of the physical training, does anyone know what you need to pass? I keep reading on here about times for 1.5miles? Is that the endurance test? Also, do you know how many sit-ups, press-ups you need to do within a specific time to pass? Are there any other elements?? Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you! :D

Hi,

Doesn't sound like you've been to the careers office but I might be wrong. This would be your best starting point by far. They will give you practice questions for the aptitude test, and an overview of what the role is about. It's worth phoning around and bases for a visit to an Air Traffic environment, this will look excellent on your record too.

From what I know of two friends, both also female, who are in Cranwell for Fighter Control jobs, it seems that the academic / mental aptitude tests are the most important. They both went for Intelligence & scored highly, but were rerouted into Fighter Control, presumably because there aren't enough applicants for the latter. As such, get practicing at aptitude tests and such, and if you make the grade & have that career as your first choice, you should be in luck.

Hey,

Thank you very much for that! I better get practicing with the aptitude test then. I've started my fitness training already so that shouldn't be too much of a problem! Thanks again for all your help and advice. I really appreciate it! x

Hi Jo

I am 34 and just been through OASC (now waiting for the post!!) If you wnat any questions on the new regime just PM me. By the way running the mile and a half is onlyafter you get selected, you have to pass a bleep test. I can run the mile and a half within time for my age but messed up the bleep test!! Had never done one before and was not prepared for the method of running.

As for the appitude tests not sure how much you can prepare for them, as they say there they are designed to test inate ability. Speed time distance calculation practice though is a must!!

Like i said if you want to know anything else i will try and help!!
