Hello, new Member
Training is going better than ever. Knocked out 3 miles is 21 minutes. Not the fastest in the world, but not bad after only 2 weeks of running. Only thing that is letting me down is Press Ups.
My training program, (Please feel free to Critique)
Morning/Afternoon:
30 Min Run, Cross country at around 7.5 min/mile pace. + Set of Pull ups
OR
3 Mile timed run. Flat Road. + Set of Pull ups
OR
50 Min swim. Brest Stroke with time at the end spent treading water. + driving a car without power steering!
The morning session depends on how I'm physically plus any commitments.
Afternoon/Evening.
Using the circuit from the Green training Guide from the AFCO.
Press Ups: 13,18,13
Knees to Chest: 8,13,8 (What sadist invented these?!)
Squats: 17,22,17
Pull ups: 4,6,4
Alt Knee to elbow: 11,16,11
Squats: 17,22,17
Triceps dips: 12,17,12
Half sits: 14,19,14
Lunges (each leg): 6,11,6
(Box jumps replaced with squats.)
Figures seam a little low but all exercises preformed with near perfect form. Will be reassessing myself on the weekend.
My program is based around 12 & 14.5 hour shifts using them as my days off.
Thanks,
Colin.

Up until the late seventies there were two types of Recruit Troops taken though training. Junior Marine Troops and Adult Recruit Troops. The Juniors were mostly 16 years of age although some were as young as 15. They joined at RMB Deal in Kent and spent about 15 weeks there. Most of the 15 weeks was used to let them fill out and basically grow up and mature so they were ready for CTCRM in both mind and body. They then went forward to CTCRM. I think Junior Marines were in training for nine months.just_me wrote:Can you join RM straight from school at the age of 16 or is it 17?
The Recruit Troops also joined at Deal but only stayed there for 10 days. The ages of an Adult Recruit Troop ranged from 17 up to 27. Back then you see there was no such thing as a PRMC so them 10 days was how the Corps sussed out who had it in them to hack Cdo Trg, and also gave blokes the chance to see if a career in the Corps was for them. The failure rate was pretty high and it was not unusual for a Troop to wait another 10 days at Deal whilst the next Troop did their 10 days evaluation so that both troops could be combined and sent to CTCRM. The Recruit Troop did about 6 or seven months in training, longer if you include leave periods.
These days all recruits join at CTCRM and do 32 weeks in training. The age range within each Troop can vary from 16 to 33. Though most of the guys who are 16 are in truth nearly always a couple of months off hitting their 17th Birthday.
