Fartlek & Intervel & Hill sprints Question

Post by commandocrazy »

Hi all could someone please explain what fartlek and interval training are and what you do in them? Also I've finally found a good hill to do my sprints on, so how should I go about it? Should I just run up the hill as fast as I possibly can and then jog back down? How many reps should I do of this or should I just do it until I am knackered?

Thanks in advance :D

Fartlek

Interval

Hillsprints, you should start off doing ten of them, carry on doing it the way you are (sprint up, jog down) and gradually increase the reps over time. You will get terrrible DOMs doing hill sprints though so good luck :)

That depends very much on the size of you’re hill... If you tried to do ten sprints on the hill at the end of my road for you’re first ever hill sprint session you'd soon find out you've bitten off more than you can chew. (after nearly 3 years of running up it multiple times per week I can only just manage ten consecutive sprints!)

And I’ve got Mike90 to verify that... we did have some fun running up there  :P

As with everything variety is the key, try running up long/short/middle distance/step/gradually inclining hills etc and don't over do it.

Enjoy!

i do 100m sprints on a quite steep hill, when i first tryed it i was hanging out after 5 so had a break then carryed on, but after a week i could do ten fast walk down and straight back up, and i just add 1 rep on every week now, but just from doing that for 3 weeks now can feel the difference

I highly recommend Carrow Hill

From the bottom to the old bit of castle/wall/whatever is about 200m and its a killer!

I'd keep that sort of personal stuff to PM if I were you.

In all seriousness you don't know who the f*ck is looking at it and deciding to take the oppertunity. I'm not trying to worry anyone, it's just worth mentioning that you shouldn't be publicly saying where you train for the military frequently because we all know what society is like these days.

Take care all.

Sad but true.

Mind you I can just see it now... there you are lined up ready for you’re hill sprint session, jogging round the corner and there on the hill is row upon row of placard welding, Anorak wearing, flask drinking anti-war protestors :o

:P All the best
