Any chance I could have a gander at that when me and Liam pop around? I've seen some good videos on P-Coy and that but it would be nice to see something I can be sure isn't a 'fairytale' version.flighty wrote:By Gum, I've got the DVD of my lad doing P-Coy December 2004.

Only 5? lol must have been hard for those five. I take it the AFC would have a course then but maybe it's not that good. So you're one of those PT Instructors then? Can you give me a little bit of insight on the training then please?Sandy The Guvnor wrote: Stretcher race today for the AFC platoon on test week and 1 stetcher finished with only 5 joes on it

AFC
Hello everybody,
Yeah I went to AFC but was only there for 12 weeks, but I could say it soon gives you a good idea... the rest of the recruits by the way are all capable of getting in with good enough reasons to join, physically fit and medically fit.
So in a sense you are all the same and it's the same view to the NCO's, you have to stay for first 4 weeks and then decide if you want to go, you must go by 6th month of training, or you have to stick it for like 4 years..
During the first week you just mess about getting haircuts and getting kit etc and learning how to iron and all the admin stuff, then once you've got your kit that's when you start the better stuff.
The hardest bits are really getting beasted and having to sleep out in the cold and wet LOL, which is hard in a sense but a good laugh when you look back on it. If you get bully boys starting to test everybody out the best idea is to whack them one, lol sorry to say but I had to and it was only for good reasons. I do wish I never came out now, and I am trying to get back into the forces there is nothing on civvi street for me.
You all bond eventually as you get the ones at first who do not want to be there just messing about, and getting you a Hell of a time since the NCO's beast you all. Eventually we started bonding and by the 6th week you know that everybody wants to give it a good go like I did (but obviously I had had enough by the 12th week), but I did try my hardest and did cry when I gave in my notice...
I admit it, but on the Para half of things I had a Para Cpl who was on 2 section and all Paras and everybody else has the same training, my section commander was a RHA bdr (Desert Rat) who I think was 7 RHA and he gave us some beastings!!
We used to laugh down the rifle ranges when were made to run to certain way points, and it was hilarious once you got the jist of it, so there's nothing to worry about, as long as you like getting wet and cold and shiver on sentry duty then you should have no problems.
As to the beastings... well just hold it out and you soon get fit enough to cope. You will get the odd Para PT instructor who will give you a right good time lol but it's all part of the fun... and if you are all successfull of entry then best thing I would say is for your spare time hobbies/sports they give you then do weights, cross country, martial arts or something physical, (not the go-karting LOL) as it will help the fitness levels

AFC PARA
Yeah mate it was 1.5miles (2.4km) within 9.30 mins and I really would push 9 mins if I was you, to show the potential, get 12 pull-ups done too. I did it so it shouldn't be a problem... I am talking straight arms to chin over the bar not poxy pull-ups.... and my advice is 50 sit ups a day just to make sure you pass the mark. Like I say, always go further that's what they are looking for. While the fools learn from their own mistakes, The wise men learn from other peoples!!!!!!

Alright yeah. Do you mean sit-ups with your feet wedged underneath something or without (weighted sit-ups or not). Did you mean to even apply for AFC Paras your time has to be 9:30? Also i tkae it treadmills are rubbish, is there any better way to imprve fitness I live in London and running on streets isn't the easiest where I live, and recently somebody got stabbed and killed in my closest park which puts me off running in it a bit. Any advice welcome. Thanks.
I think the run times have just gone up across the Army, not sure if its for ITC aswell but anyway 9.40 it says is now insted of 9.18.
