AFC - PARAS

Post by just_me »

Hey I'm new here and hoping to go to AFC Harrogate when I leave school and then onto the paras. Does anybody here know if you can go straight from AFC to P-company and if there is a special afc course for the paras? Also, are there any ideal fitness routines I should get into in order to get in Para-fitness state? Replies Please.
Cheers

Usually the lads from the AFC join one of the regular recruit pltn's just before P Coy and then continue through to the end of training with them but I'm not sure exactly what week they join them.

Alright cheers. But do you know whether when you apply for AFC if you have to state that you want to join the Paras and then go an a Para course in AFC before going onto P-coy?

Think you do but you don't train with para reg NCO'S, the hats train you then you go to depot at week 12 as a platoon of AFC recruits.

They do get a bit of sh*t off the regular recruits though, because of the fact that you don't do the first 6 weeks where thats a lot of the main sh*t they give you takes place plus you're not being trained by specifically Para reg nco's

So you're saying that AFC recruits miss part of P-coy? As long as I get the same training I'm happy though. Does anyone know of any other school-leavers programme that's associated with and helps school leavers with P-coy and life in general with the paras?
Also do you think AFC would help me with the Paras or am I better off in another school leaver programme or what?

Why don't you just do Depot like everyone else?

Stop trying to short cut it to a Maroon lid.

Don't know where you got missing part of P-company out of what I said, because you don't do P-coy till week 19/20, and I said you join at week 12.

plastic, the reason I'm looking into AFC or any sort of school leavers programme is because as far as I know to get into Para selection and depot you have to be 17 (I'm right, right?). So I figured because in AFC you get some sort of head start in the Infantry bit of the course (weapons handling ect.) I might as well go into AFC rather than spend time at home doing some sort of makeshift excercise routine. I was just wondering about any sort of school leavers programme that might be able to help me get my fitness and skills up to scratch.
Also Steve my mistake I meant Para training not P-coy.
So does anyone know of any other school leavers programme to help para recruits or is the AFC my best bet at the moment? Any help appreciated, thanks to those who've already replied.

Apologies, I assumed you were around the 16 / 17 mark.

No I'm 16 next year, and need something to do between end of school and the age of 17 where I can start my application. I've been reading around on the forums and have discovered that really the AFC course is sh*te, so I'm asking again does anyone know of any decent school leavers programme which would help get me on track for depot?

I don't mate, I joined at 23 so I'm a bit past school leaver stuff.

Sandy - about the AFC. What do you mean by revamp the course? I've heard that despite what the AFC site says, the courses are actually a lot like school (meaning theres a lot of classroom work) although this was only one or two people's opinion. Assuming you know a bit about the AFC Para course, would you mind explaining a bit about it - i.e the rough schedule, and an idea of the requirements to get into it, I'm guessing the 1.5m time have to be better than those of standard AFC trainees.
Thanks to all of those who have already replied. :D
