Hi,
I'm going to basic training soon and reading through my list of things to get, it says 7 pairs of underwear and socks, just out of interest what kinds of underwear is best?? Loose boxers or tight ones for sport, etc. the same thing with socks, do I want thick sports ones or thin office ones??
One more thing anyone who's started basic training, what kind of bag did you take when taking all your gear, sports holdall or small suitcase
Thanks for any replies in advance
Winston

For the Navy we were advised to take briefs but I'm not a fan of the Y-fronts so I used boxers for everything. Failing that, go commando but just make sure you don't get skids in your PT rig
There was a mixture of both on our basic, though I took a small suitcase. Whatever you take will probably be locked in a baggage room and rarely seen so it doesn't matter; choose whichever you can fit all your kit in and isn't too much of an arse carting around. Looking back, I would have taken a sports bag for easier lugging around on my 8 hour train journey.

I spent a fortune on clothes for my lad. Smart stuff for this, that and the other .... proper shoes, shirts blah titty blah. All were ''demanded'' in the brief.
As it turned out none of it was required during basic and they were told to either bin it or get it sent home.
Was not impressed.
There again ... you don't want to be pissing people off if you don't have the corrrect stuff should the occasion demand.
Suggest you go with it, mate and don't give them opportunity to say you didn't do as you were asked.

For your skiddies just wear whatevers comfiest, though we had to aqcuire proper pants for PT...
PTI doesn't want your co*k and bawls hanging out winking at him during rope climbing!!
Looking back, I'd take a sports hold all type thing, you can get a reasonably sized one for all your kit easily enough. You won't need to fill it as you'll be in issue kit most of the time.
Any wearing of civvies will probly be during any spare time in the evening (HAHAHAHAHAAA!!!
) or perhaps a few hours at the weekend in the NAAFI..

May I ask what reg are you going mate, I'm off on a training week with the Pioneers on the 10th of March to see if I'd like it or not instead of running straight into the great unknown. Anyone here know much about the Pioneers? Tips and information would be nice.
