Take a few pairs of "special socks", preferably white so you know which ones have contents and which are safe to wear :P

Erm, didn't bother reading that post to be honest as I'm going to scran any minute now, but if I was to go through para basic here's a few extra bits I'd take and possibly keep hidden:

Klear floor polish (available from asda, ace for bulling boots/shoes)
Starch spray for ironing
Ear plugs (one guy in my basic sounded like a f@#k lawnmower at night)
Plasters/vaseline for your nipples..
Hair clippers if you have some...bastards here charge £7 for an head-shave

..and if you're into supplements, "Beta Alanine". www.myprotein.co.uk stock it and it's a beast for preventing soreness the next day. After a workout that is.. Not.. Nevermind.

Haha, it took me 3 weeks to crack before I went and busted out a special shit. I heard some people lasted our full 8 weeks training before giving themselves that much needed "helping hand" :o

Oh, and get used to talks like this, it's part of daily life :P

Leave pictures of loved ones at home as some filthy fecker will have one off over them and leave them on your bed.. seriously!

Clean your love socks from time to time.. nothing fun about finishing in a crusty sock... lenor is such an invigorating fragrance!!

Seriously though.. I wouldn't use Klear on your boots.. it cracks too easily and goes grey when wet..

PLenty tins of Kiwi Parade gloss (brown gives a better shine for bulling.. but black daily use.)

Try and get yourself a few "Sylvette" clothes, much better than traditional yellow bull rags...

Your corporals will show you standards for ironing etc and give tips on whats best with modern kit.. it was denims and wooly jumpers for me mate!!

Shopping tips

Post by bobolov »

Thanks lads for all the advice I'm doing my shopping tomorrow. I think though that going 8 weeks without a good old polishing is a bit extreme, I might as well go for it on the first night to break the ice

Best of luck mate.. if you do turn up with an oil rigs supply of special interest magazines... only lend them out when you have defo got over your infatuation with the lady of the month.. crinkly crackly stuck pages are such an irritation!

One more tip mate.. Take your own bog roll... And DO NOT lend it to anyone.. the issue stuff gets used up so fast and you also might have to have a couple of show bogs that no-one can use in order to keep them spotless at all times.

Some parts (quite a lot actually) of basic are anal at best... go with the flow,.. it all has a purpose.

Indeed, I'm sure you'll get used to the phrase "bullshit". We used to own unworn shirts that we'd use for inspection...though some people got picked up with the card bits still stuck in the collar :P

Klear is hella good for inspections, I use it weekly for parade. The only problems as you say, is that it cracks and looks like shattered glass, and also that it leaves a definitive line if not blended in with polish. However, another layer on top of it when it's cracked and it's practically as good as new :D
