Salary as an officer?

Post by Meps »

Hey,

Bit of a question regarding officer salary, something i cant figure out and its bugging me. This is taken from the marines webpage.
"When you're doing your training you will be earning £14,348.88, or £275.94/week.

When you complete the training you'll go on to earn:

Captain £34,935 - 41,545
Major £44,005 - 52,702
Lt Colonel £61,761 - 68,273
Colonel £71,522 - 79,049"
From my understanding an Officer gets the Rank of 2nd Lt when he starts his training and earns the stated amount. After his training and his time as a Troop Commander does the training wage still apply?
Second Lieutenant
All Royal Marines (RM) Officers are commissioned from the first day of training at Commando Training Centre (CTCRM), Second Lieutenant (2Lt) is the lowest commissioned rank within the RM/ARMY. Young Officers hold the rank of 2Lt until they have completed training; this includes their first year as a Troop Commander, in an operational unit.

Lieutenant
Senior Corps Commissioned Officers hold the rank of Lieutenant (Lt) whilst undergoing training at CTCRM. In Commando units a Lt could still be a Troop Commander as the rank is also held by Direct Entry Officers who commence training before the age of 21.
Also from the second quote it states the Rank of Lieutenant is held by Direct Entry Officer who commence training before the age of 21... Is it just me of does the change of title for the sake of age seem strange?

I know it seems like a petty thing to notice, but i did non the less and now its bugging me.

Thanks for any input

Does it matter? Seen some right daft questions put up by various people but being as you answered the bloody question yourself may I ask just why did you bother asking the question in the first place?

 So I did, I was just miss reading it lol. Brilliant - Made of tit of myself there! :P

As for the second question... it may not matter like I said it may seem a bit petty, just something I noticed and wondered why. Is it daft to show an interest? :-?

Meps, my understanding was that it was a graduate/non-graduate thing - direct entry officers joining under 21 with no degree join as 2nd Lt, over 21 (usually with a degree) join as Lt. Don't take that as gospel though.

Officers - non graduates start on 14k as 2Lt. , promotion to Lt. after phase 2. Captain roughly 3 years later

Graduates start on around 23k, start as 2Lt (I think). also, but are given seniority based on age as to how long they have to serve before being eligable for Captain - Age 21 and older (i.e. completing a full 3 year degree) are given 3 years seniority for the 3 years studying therefore going straight to Captain after phase 2. When you apply, just before POC they send you a blue form that explains it all fairly clearly.

Do a search for posts containing 'seniority' by me, I think I quoted from the AFCO document not so long ago last time this was brought up, it's vital info for some so they give it to all potential Officers anyway.

Hope that clears it up.
