Evening all,
I'm not sure if I heard right, but does anybody know anything more on this very disturbing 'news' story. Apparently there are plans afoot to reduce the Infantry combat training to just 14 weeks!!!!!
I'm in the process of applying and don't think that I would be nearly up to the standard of current serving personnel!! Nor do I think those same personnel would have confidence in the new guys coming through. It just seems that they are trying to churn out 'cannon fodder'.
Discuss.

Utter bullshit mate. I read about this in the Daily Mail. Looks like someone junior and insignificant mooted "What if we half the training time, then we'd get more soldiers!" only to be ignored by the rest of the military but pounced upon by the national press. If this happens I'll eat my hat, my shoes, my gloves and my umbrella in one sitting.
I hope that this latest 'brainstorm' gets shit-canned asap! 14 weeks is not nearly enough time to train a British soldier to mantain the very high standards we are used to. Some hoo-ray Henry desk-driver with nothing better to do probably shat out that one!

I agree with you there mate, nobody is going to want to serve with a 'soldier', if you want to call them that, that has had the absolute bare minimum of training!!! Only to be used as a scapegoat when things go tits-up. Lets hope this is just someones brain fart!!!

Even if it was to happen, it wouldn't mean they'd get more men, they'd just end up training the men faster, but still the same amount of people would be joining, if you get me.
Thinking about it, less people would join, because those who really think about joining the infantry because they really want to and not because they have nothing better to do, would probably be put off doing it.
