Scots Guards

Post by Gimp »

Hello folks,

I am currently at college and considering joining the Scots Guards when my course is completed.

I have had a look at their Web site and visited my local ACIO for information. I was hoping posters on this site could give my a little information on this regiment, or even Guardsman in general. I am particularly interested if anyone could shed the sort of fitness required during CIC. I am not the fittest bloke in the world but have a few months to build up and a nod in the right direction would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Hello.
I too have applied to the Scots Guards, I actually have a meeting at the recruitment office tomorrow!
My old man served in the Scots Guards so he has passed on a lot of information to me about the history of the regiment, other than that I looked on their web site, it tells you pretty much all you need to know.

Regarding your fitness, i should think that you can be ready in a few months, the requirements are the same as all infantry regiments so have a look on the Army web site, they have all the details about the fitness tests. I believe the main thing is your running over a mile and a half has to be under 10mins 30sec, as well as the strength tests (which are also outlined on the web site). As I said, everything you will need to know is online. Good luck with your training and your application.

Matthew.

Cheers mate.

I believe you are referring to the ADSC tests, although the ACIO did tell me that I would need to complete the run in sub ten minutes to “be competitive.”

I was after a heads up on the most important kind of fitness for Catterick, cardio or strength.

Good luck tomorrow fella.

Can't go wrong there.

:) That is always a winner too.

I was not planning on doing just one aspect, honest

I was just curious if it would be best hitting the gym or sticking with bodyweight resistance exercises. As I understand it there will be a lot of Forced Marches (or lots of fashion parades, as the recruiter put it  ) on the course, is running/circuit/swimming etc. going to be enough to prepare me or should I get walking with some weight? I see from some other posts that thrashing oneself with a Bergen is not advised, how about just getting used to weight?

That sort of stuff really.

Gimp,

Have a read through this. I know this guy was going into the Coldstream Guards but the standard may be the same? Anyway some useful stuff in there, have a good read.
