Hi,
I have my AOSB briefing in February, and hopefully my AOSB main board shortly after that. I'm just after some advice on the fitness level, depth of current affairs knowledge required etc.
1) Chin ups - I can do 3 or 4 at the moment - and that's a struggle. Are there any other exercise I can do to assist me when doing them (if that makes sense)? Also which grip do they ask you to do, over or under?
2) Bleep test - I understand this has replaced the 1.5 mile run. The level required is 10.5. What length of time will you have been running for at this level, and what speed is it at this level?
3) Current affairs and knowledge of the army - I read the week, Soldier magazine, the BBC website and the Independent (most days). Should this give me enough knowledge?
4) What to take - Do they send you a list?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Freddie

Good luck on your briefing. Use this website for your queries: http://www.army.mod.uk/aosb/regular_ser ... /index.htm
You will get stopped at 10.2 on the bleep test although you will be running in coveralls and bib. There are no chin ups/ pull ups assessed although working some into your training will help you fly round the individual obstacle course. If I'm wrong I apologise but this is how it was run in May when I did mine.
Your current affairs prep sounds fine, just make sure you read a variety of tabloids as well as broadsheets and discussions etc. will be a doddle. Make sure you're reasonable at speed/distance/time calculatons in your head, it'll make the planning exercise tutorial easier and more enjoyable!
Lastly enjoy yourself and take in everything you're told . The staff are really helpful and will do their best to give you all the advice they can for main board. You'll meet some good like-minded people but beware of the odd tosser and just crack on - in my experience the staff don't miss a trick so just worry about yourself!
All the best.
