TATTOOS!
Hey everyone, was wondering whether my tattoo will effect my chances of entry, it's a tribal tattoo of the sun on my forearm and is about as big as the base of a baked beans can.
Hi Paddlequack,
Tattoos. Any tattoo(s) which is/are offensive or obscene will be a bar to entry or re-entry. Additionally tattoos should not be visible on the head and neck. Furthermore any tattoo(s) excessive in size or number may be a bar to
entry or re-entry. You may be asked to complete a form describing your tattoos.
I wouldn't worry about about Excessive Size part. When i asked my career officer he said its fine and considering three quarters of me back is filled, i shouldn't think you will have a problem.
I hope that helps
Kev

I think he means don't get a tattoo of something like the globe and laurel or commando dagger before you've passed out of RT.
If you do have an RM tattoo and somebody sees it during training you'll become a laughing stock for obvious reasons.

I have seen guys with those kind of tattoos before. I was in a bar once I had an Air Cadet T shirt on as I had just got back from a camp with them. This guy came upto me and asked how long i had been in the raf i explained i was just a cadet. He then tried telling me he wa sa bootneck showed me the tattoo and all. I asked him a few probing questions the answers he gave were utter tosh. Made me laugh

Aye lol i've met people like that, me and my mate were in a pub talking about PRMC and this guy came over and told us he was a commando. I asked him a few questions and it turned out he was in "1" commando, clocking this i eventually got it out of him that he dropped out in week 2 of RT though im not even sure i believe that, he did moments before that told us he was a hardcore football hooligan who fought for both Man Utd and Man City. *tut tut*

Hi.
After reading this thread i thought, may aswell post a reply and ask instead of starting a whole new thread.
I was planning on getting a 1/2 arm sleeve tattoo on my shoulder and upper arm, this wont affect entry will it? If so, i wont do it! Probably a stupid question, but still, I dont want to risk not being able to join because of a tattoo!
Cheers.

Lol, yeah, hopefully not, I just wanted to check lol
Eeerm, I dunno, she may do
lol
She is against me joining the RM so if she thinks a tattoo will be a barrier to entry she will want me to get one lol ....... Hmmm I could use this to my advantage *strokes chin*

Tats are not a problem if they are hidden when wearing a uniform. Only problem you may have is when it's "Summer Rig" as in rolled up sleeves. If your tat is considered offensive at the AFRO they may suggest that it would be in your best intrerest to have it removed.
As it is I've seen blokes covered in tats in the Corps. One bloke had hinges tattooed on every joint on his body and along the back of his neck he had a series of dots with the words "Cut Here" in the middle.
If you do have an offensive tat which may cause the recruiters to have second thoughts about letting you join then the simple answer is to have it covered up with another tat.
Never had Tats myself as I could not see the point of them. These days I see guys of my age and older whose tats are somewhat faded and unreadable and to a man they all say the same thing. "Wish I'd never had the bloody things done!"
Hindsight....A wonderful thing.
