Pay

Post by bulldog9 »

Just passed my interview.

Was told about pay, I will receive in my hand £660 a month.

I thought it was more, I knew the pay wasn't great but I thought it was more than that.

Just want this clarifying by anyone please.

Royal Marines Website wrote:When you're doing the 32 week training course you will be earning £12,572, or £241.70/week.
- you'll be so busy you won't have much time to spend it, and with your accommodation and food* being paid for directly from your wages, it'll feel like a lot more.

When you complete the training you'll go on to earn:

Marine £15,677 - 26,664
Corporal £24,328 - 30,573
Sergeant £27,653 - 34,025
Colour Sergeant /
Warrant Officer 2 £30,611 - 39,851
Warrant Officer 1 £35,565 - 43,077
As it says above there are deductions for food, accommodation and so on, so basically the 660 quid a month (or thereabouts) which you have left during RT, can be spent on whatever you feel like spending it on.

Sounds spot on to me. After tax and living deductions you're not left with alot.

This might help get a better idea of the take home from £12572, although food and accom will need to be taken off the final figure.

I find this a useful tool for working out TAX and NI...

Where it says "Marine £15,677 - 26,664" which is after you have completed training, i take it to get nearer the max being £26,664 you have to be more experienced? In there longer?

It's an incremental scale, with 9 levels. You go onto level 1 after 6 months in RT, assuming you're in phase 2, usually works out at about wk26 with leave factored in there. From then, you go up one pay level per year, though it is possible to skip up to two levels if you opt to specialise (Drives and Sigs both carry two years advanced increment levels). You skip straight to level 5 if made up to Lance-jack before you get there. This is all on the lower pay band. As a MARINE ONLY, TQs (such as Armourer, VM, Metalsmith - the most technically skilled specialisations) you go onto a higher pay band, which is worth an extra few quid a day. Upon promotion to Cpl, whatever your SQ, you switch to the Cpl's pay spine, generally at level 1 unless this would mean you taking a pay drop (they can't reduce your pay).
