Remembrance

Post by ali_hire »

As it's getting nearer to remembrance day I was scouring the net trying to find a piece of music that I heard a long time ago and is very apt at this time of year. It is Hymn to the Fallen written by John Williams and was written to commemorate the heroes who fought in WW1.
You can listen to it here - Hymn to the Fallen.

Whilst I was looking for this I came across another song which I had heard years ago but had since forgotten about (due to it being banned by the BBC some time ago). It's called Soldier and is written and performed by Harvey Andrews. I think some of the older members here who have served in Northern Ireland would probably be able to relate to the lyrics well; I think it's particularly poignant.
It can be heard here - Soldier.

I particularly like it because it reminded me that it's not just the heroes of WW1 & 2 that should be remembered at this time of year. Spare a thought this November for the brave people who have been almost forgotten from the Falklands and Northern Ireland conflicts as well as the young men still on the frontline in the middle east.
Aways look on the bright side of life.
