A quick hello and a quick question.

Post by ross_staffs »

Hi guys.I'm new here so first of all I'd like to say a quick hello.

I've decided after years of indecision that I'm finally gonna fullfill my dream and try for the Royal Marines (I'm 25).

What I want to know is really about the swimming side of things. Are all the tests done in breast stroke or can you use front crawl if you want? I'm useless at breast stroke so I need to know whether I've gotta get my ass down the pool for some lessons/practice.

Any advice/input would be much appreciated.

Hello mate,

I Know as far as PRMC is concered the test is one length un-aided in breaststroke, as for RT I not sure, maybe they use all the styles to hand, maybe another member will be able to add to this post, or you might find you'll be pointed in the direction of the search button,

Secondly, welcome to the forums, it is a disiplined but friendly community, use it wisely and stick to the rules.

What you do is line up, jump off a diving board into the water then breast stroke one length then get out. Even if your not a really good swimmer, you willl be swimming til your head falls off til about week 6-8.

So even if you're a swim biff, they'll change that with extra lessons.
Just Lie back and think of England.

Its breast stroke fella, it would be a strong shout to try swimming with full kit and rifle doing front crawl  (also not very tactical) alternately you could hold your breath and try walking all the way you would stil get the tick in the box.

If this works (I am a computer biff) here is a link to you tube

I thought the age limit was 24 for the Royal marines?

You thought incorrectly ;)

Its the ripe old age of 32 or 33 upon commencing training, up from 27 due to lack of recruitment.

Your BST.

You jump off the 10m board, fully clothed wearing fighting order and carrying a rifle. You have to swim the length of the pool and back (breaststroke) then tread water for 2 minutes. After two minutes you have to hand over your rifle and fighting order to someone stood by the side of the pool, at no time are you allowed to touch the side of the pool.

The pool at CTC is one inch shorter than olympic size.

On the PRMC, do you wear your speedos on the outside of your CS95's or underneath?
