officer

Post by add01 »

Just a couple of quick questions.
Im currently applying to join as a marine, but the more i look in to it the more i feel i would want to have a bash at joining as an officer.

What Qualifications do you have to have?, i have a national diploma which is equivelent to 3 a lavels. Would that be enough, its just that i dont want to go to uni.

I have passed my writen test, medical and interview for a marine, would i have to start the process all over again to join as an officer or not?

many thanks, add

cheers,
I got the info from the afco that i needed.
They said i need 140 ucas points for direct entry and i have 120 so im thinking of goin back and re-doing some work to get a the right amount of points.
Also that i would have to have an interview with an officer and re do the phsyc tests.

Qualification wise you need either a degree or 140 UCAS points or equivalent. Once you've got that they basically tick a box with "Yes or No".

I tried to become a commissioned officer in the RM this year (read my diary's) and ended up failing AIB. Because I passed POC I could go to training as a standard marine in the next 6 weeks. I'm not doing that (after seriously considering it, I actually still am) but if you feel you have what it takes to become an officer then have a go. Once you have passed POC you haven't lost anything if you don't make it.
Only thing I will say is I believe that POC is harder, but then I would.

Best of luck and use this website, it is a great resource so use it.

POC: 04/06/07 -Passed
AIB: 02/07/07 -Fail, needed more life experience

Intend to re-apply after I have gone to university

Read my diaries in the RM archives section THEN PM me if you have a question

Hey Brows, i read both your diary's for your POC and AIB they were great, and i am sorry you failed the AIB seems to me you would av made a great officer with your never give in attitude.

I was wondering can you not take the board again?? Is it 1 chance then thats it!! And i don't no if your the man to help with this but i am currently at university and i was wondering about the bursery scheme, do i have to do the POC now and the Board then you qualify for the bursery?? Let me no if you can help. In good luck, did you ever consider maybe trying as an officer in the army/paras?

OIW

Glad you liked my diaries, it’s nice to know people are enjoying them and finding them useful.

You can only take a AIB once every 12 months so the earliest I could do it again would be next year. But then they failed me due to lack of life experience so I wouldn't want to go back and get the question "what have you done since you were last here" and not really have an answer.
I am expecting to leave it for a few years to get that life experience then re-apply. They can just tell you not to come back so I don't think I did too badly.

I didn't got for a bursary so don't quote me on this but there were a few people on my POC/AIB who were and I believe you have to pass POC (slightly lower standard for POC, just the RMFA though and RMFA was a pleasant walk down a country lane compared to Tuesday) and AIB in order to gain a bursary.
Get your head in your AFCO and ask them. They won't judge you and they won't give you anything other than honest advice. Don't think you’re wasting their time too; they are there to answer such questions. It's always good to be on their radar even if you’re not doing anything yet.

Unfortunately I am sold on the RM and wouldn't consider anything else. The leaving comment from the Sgt at my AIB after I had failed was "Don't do anything stupid...like join the Army!" And I’m going to follow that advice.

I'm not sure about Brows' situation, but if you have never lived away from home, never had a proper job that is what they mean by 'live experience.' They don't want to recruit someone who I going to cry to mummy when they move away for the first time.
